Has any apostate ever lied at a JC about being apostate?
by purrpurr ini watched/ listened to the brave and courageous souls on youtube who bravely recorded their jc's.
you really see a different and horrid side to the elders there.
it might sound whimpy but i don't think i would be able to stand strong like those guys did.

I'm keeping my head low, just slowly fading away is all... There may come a time when I outspokenly oppose the organization, but for now, the slow fade is working for me. -

1993 AWAKE on Child Abuse
by The_Doctor10 in10/8/93 awake article about child abuse misconceptions, checkout the second misconception: children fantasize or lie about abuse.. this article notes how it's extremely unlikely that children lie in cases of abuse (95% in some estimates are truthful) and how even among the ones who lie it's usually when they make a claim (in truth) but then subsequently lie and say it didn't happen, when in actuality, it did.. given this knowledge, why the two witness rule?
95% odds that the child who claims abuse is telling the truth by the awakes own admission, that should be more than enough to change policies of the wts.. http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/g19931008/about-child-abuse/#?insight%5bsearch_id%5d=8d161c40-c4d0-4ddb-aadf-bcf2b480d55b&insight%5bsearch_result_index%5d=0.

Oh make no mistake about it, I definitely want those other policies changed into a "contact the local authorities first," policy. That's what needs to be done.
I just posed the one two witness policy, since the 95% odds of truth was cited in the article, this would apply to the "two witness," rule since it'd be the first rule applied in cases of reports to elders.
If a child goes to an elder to make a claim, the elder won't immediately put any weight to what the child says because he needs a second witness despite the 95% probability of the claim, is all I was getting at since their own article backs this up. The two witness rule is an impediment to the others being applied.
I completely agree with you that the entire policy should be uprooted in favor of a report it to the local law enforcement first and let them handle it. Enough of this "let's hide the pedo," policy.

Anything other than a complete policy change in how to handle accusations of child abuse as well as the reporting to the congregation about known child abusers/molesters within the halls, would be saddistic and an utter disservice to the congregations. -

Faith v Fact - New Book by Jerry Coyne
by cofty injerry coyne has been in the news with the release of a new book "faith v fact".. you can read a review from the independent here.... "he argues that there is a direct and unavoidable conflict between faith and science.
both make truth claims about the universe.
but only science has the means to test, refute or refine its claims.

Even when I was "in," the fact that the "Truth" could never be questioned always bothered me. Simple reasoning, "If the truth is the truth then no line of questioning can hurt it, so why be so worried about people questioning?"
This is why after I finally completely obliterated my faith in JW doctrine, and subsequently the Bible itself, turning to Science was the best thing ever because its foundation is basically, 'Question Everything!' which is what is so great, Science can be wrong, it'll admit it too, to be wrong is to learn, it's a wonderful foundation.
It just sucks so much that I didn't have this information through my teen years.

Love his, "Evidence for Evolution," speech, showed many point by point explanations for all of the evidence. Included link to the video below if anyone hasn't seen it:

Conti v WT court documents
by umbertoecho ini don't know if this has been read by any who are on this forum.
i have only received it in the last few minutes.
it is a good document in that, it is easy to understand, it's not full of legal jargon.

I don't understand the WTS stand on this issue, just tell the BOE to always inform the congregation when there's a known pedophile amongst them, how hard is that?!
When an accusation is made, even if only by one person, the BOE should actually recommend taking it to local law enforcement, that'd absolve them of all responsibility for whatever happens thereafter.
Having a pedophile do something may look bad on the WTS, but with proper measures they could completely avoid any blame. Instead they not only have pedophiles doing things, their policies only help shield a pedophile from being properly held accountable, and even worse keep the pedophiles around to harm more children.
Why the WTS is so committed to being on the wrong side of this argument is mind-boggling to me.

Already seen the retort, "We don't worship our flags, they're just advertisements." Let the JW rationale begin. -

Disfellowshipped at 18
by asensier inyou can probably guess how this story goes.. i began dating a non-witness boy.
he knew i was a baptised witness and understood the consequences i faced for dating him.
we agreed to keep our relationship secret, which was easy considering our 200 mile distance.

Just found this great quote that fits your situation, "If your approval of your child is predicated on their beliefs, you don't love your child at all, you love your beliefs."
If you extend yourself that you want to maintain a relationship with your family at some point, but they hold to their JW enforced doctrine, trot that quote out to them. It's not you that caused this division, it's their beliefs that did, always remember that.
If you have trouble realizing that, just ask yourself how many people of other backgrounds get basically disowned by their family for simply having a boyfriend? You'll only find overbearing beliefs/religions/cults to blame for this kind of attitude.
Stay strong.
