Does anyone know the Society's view on the medical use of marijuana, or if they even have a policy regarding this?

is goal setting good or bad?
sounds like the title of an awake!
goal setting can be very good in that it gives direction, purpose and accomplishment in a person's life.
: I see this as the major problem of the goals foisted on the average Witness.
I see goals as a good thing if one is setting goals for oneself, and a bad thing if someone else is setting them for you.

Hi Dsgal,
You obviously realize that you are just going through the motions, so why even bother to go?

8-1-02, addition to 7-31-02 press release .
joe anderson-disfellowshipped!
jehovahs witness child advocate.
This would be a great follow-up for Dateline to do...a show about how those members who openly criticize WT policy [re the handling of pedophiles] wind up getting shafted.

my name is jesika and i was raised one of jehovah's witnesses.
i was what they call disfellowshipped or shunned by the tender age of 15. i haven't spoken to anyone on my dad's side of the family other than my dad for over 11yrs.
they refuse to have anything to do with me because of their religion.
Way to go Jesika !!!
Now I don't know how much pull the good Doc has with Oprah on either a personal or professional level, or if Oprah herself has much to say about which topics to do shows on since the producers look after that... but it would be great if Oprah did a show about the destructive effects that cults can have on family.

a guy goes into a restaraunt for the "breakfast special".
the waitress asks him how he would like his eggs.
he replies "over easy, please" the waitress then asks "and would you like bacon, ham, or sausages?
Hi VioletAnai,
Glad I could provide a chuckle or two...

q is the organization a direct channel between god and humanity?
a again, our governing body has never claimed that our organization is inspired or infallible.
instead they, our governing body, study the bible diligently and through prayer they make a request for his holy spirit to direct them and be upon them.
Hi AK,
It's all semantics...the Society is good at being able to imply certain things without actually saying them. This gives them an escape hatch when folks call them on something. "1975" is a good example of this. It is true that they never made the statement "Armageddon will definitely come in 1975" - they were much more subtle. But they were still able to make the rank and file believe that it would likely happen within the decade, by linking 6000 yrs of man's existance to the year 1975. This produced the desired result...
In this instance, claiming that God's Holy Spirit directs them as opposed to inspiring them is just merely word play. Ask a typical JW and they will tell you that all the spiritual "food" they receive is ultimately from "Jehovah". Whether it's a result of inspiration or direction is not the real point. The real point is that the GB has the rank and file believing that to reject the Society's direction is the same as rejecting God himself.

He replies "Over easy, please" The waitress then asks "And would you like bacon, ham, or sausages?" He replies "Bacon, please". A half-hour passes and the man still hasn't recieved his order yet so he calls the waitress over to ask why his order is taking so long. The waitress informs him that the microwave quit working so it's taking awhile to thaw the bacon. Just then another waitress comes out of the kitchen, and before the door finishes closing, the man sees a big ol' ugly cook with a pound of bacon under her armpit. Appalled, the man tells the waitress "If that's how they are thawing the bacon, I ain't eatin' here!" The waitress replies "Just be thankful you ordered bacon and not sausage!!!"

of course, the wts is pretty much a pet peeve of almost everyone here.
but besides that, what's your pet peeve?
i'm in a playful mood today, so here's mine, with some tongue-in-cheekiness, of course: .
Mister Biggs,
Since my work involves a LOT of driving, I'd like to say that one of my pet peeves is people that drive close enough behind me that my smoke would bother them.
