An elder and ministerial servant physically broke into my buddy's house and went through his stuff looking for dirty magazines. This was before the internet. -

"Friends" are confused who and where they should be donating!
by thedepressedsoul inas most of you are aware there is a money issue inside of jw land.
they could be running out of money or they're just wanting more.
either way, they are making it appear as a funds issue to motivate individuals to donate more.

Re: Music at Theocratic Events
by pixel inthis is a crappy letter from the watchtower.
i'm only posting it to show how micro-managers these fools are.
and at the end, they say: "we should avoid making specific rules about somewhat technical matters".

For talks and general listening it should be at an average of 68db. For singing and such, you should be at a max of 85db. Typically the amps at the cong. level should hit the protect limit at 100db or so.
After one CO visit all the brothers involved with the sound system and microphones were called into the back room and given a good ass reaming. The elder in charge of the meeting was so upset he was turning red in the face.
Apparently the circuit overseers wife couldn't hear some of the comments in their entirety.

Preach, preach, preach....feel guilty...preach some more
by Tornintwo insince starting to wake up, i can't help notice how so many talks emphasise preaching, increasing your hours, pioneering etc...with a hefty load of guilt on the side.. i always noticed the guilt, but now i'm noticing how talks that seem to start out on another issue always seem to come back to hours!
visit talk seemed to start out about persecution, trusting in jehovah etc...but the main thrust in the end was, 'do more hours, pioneer, don't get an education or pursue a career, don't get distracted, hooray for the pioneers!
if you dont do more hours you will be 'the sort that shrink back to destruction'.

There's quite a few threads about this.
Field service keeps people too busy to think.

I'm a little surprised they didn't indicate the exact decibel level.
It would be easier for the poor bastard running the music if they did. What a crappy job. No matter how you put the sound levels someone is always complaining. -

Has appointment of MS and Elder been changed?
by Simon Templar inare there any changes to the new procedure?
it seems to me that the co doesn't ask the candidate questions any longer.
they just decide who they will appoint and announce it at the next weekly meeting.

You can tell if someone is being recommended to the circuit overseer if they have a part on the school or service meeting or are asked to say a prayer. -

Very Offensive Statement Directed To JW Parents-Watchtower 4/15/2015 Page 11 Paragraph 9
by JW GoneBad inwt is insinuating, worse yet, blaming senior jw parents for there not being more younger brothers reaching out to be ministerial servants and elders.
page 11 paragraph 9 reads as follows: .
"elders in affluent lands may face an added challenge: how to motivate baptized brothers in their 20s or 30s to get involved in congregation activities.

Crap leaders (elders) protect their position with utmost insecurity
that pretty much sums up the problem. It is the elders and organizations own fault that there are so few reaching out and those reaching out are made to jump through hoops to get appointed.
It is not the fault of the parents.

New (non)-Witnessing Model
by berrygerry inso, one of the kids on reddit posted this video - an evangelist trying to witness to guardians of the cart.
(both sides are fairly respectful imo).

If so, wouldn't it behoove WTS to just invest in 24/7 vending machines?
They'd never do it because someone would empty it and put the books in the trash
