Even better is the CD rom watchtower library. "suggested" contribution is $50.00 dollars. It costs less than 50 cents to make.

Generation Issue: The Reason
by metatron inthe "generation" issue has puzzled me for some time.
why would the society bring up and keep talking about this issue?
logically, they should have left the whole thing alone and not brought it up again.. but then i remembered............ once upon a time, i had to deal with a fellow elder who was a real old timer, with lots of connections in the organization.

If questioned about it I'll read it straight out of the reasoning book. I hope one of the elders or the CO are on the call with me

They seriously need to do an update on the reasoning book. It still has the pre-1995 version of the generation even in the reprinted versions.

PROFILE OF MY CONGREGATION
by onemore init was mentioned in another thread that gb is struggling with the lack of zeal from many active jws.
i thought of the real attitude and behavior of the active jws in my congo.
this is what i really really see..... profile of my congregation and people close to me: married couples from their mid 30s to early 40s planning to and having children, saving for retirement and going back to college.

Most congregations that I am familiar with have the same types of attitudes. The elders are getting old. The younger brothers don't want to "reach out" (who would want to?) , they are working at good jobs and have a good family life. At least 4 congregations in our area have been shut down due to lack of publishers/elders and the brothers have to drive 20 to 40 miles to the next town where there is a hall. In a nearby city 20 years ago there were 12 congregations, now there are only 7.
I don't see good things happening for the congregations in the next 20 years, the younger ones are just going through the motions and all the current elders will die off and the next generation doesn't want to take over the reins.

Field Service Question
by zzaphod ini know that the wts say`s that the jw`s are ever on the increase, more people, more studies etc.
yet where i live, (a residential suburb of quite a large city), i rarely see the jehovah`s witnesses going from door to door.
i think that they`ve knocked on my door once, and i got a memorial invite pushed through the letter box a few weeks ago.

When I work with pioneers in service they always complain that I drive too fast between the calls. They are masters at wasting time to count more time. But when I have to be back home at a specific time they always try to hound me to stay later in the day in service and try to guilt me cause I'm going home earlier than them.

Family Worship Night
by cantleave inthe circuit overseer's elders meeting i attended just under a year ago, talked a great deal about the family worship evening.
one of the things that came out was that each family head should get a visit from an elder, in order to encourage this essential spiritual activity.. as i have since faded i was wondering if the elders really did do this?
my experience is that shepherding calls are never really done unless someone has done something worthy of a jc.. so here's my question for all you guys and gals that still suffer meetings, have you had a visit from your group overseer, specifically encouraging you to make the most of family worship?.

Matthew 24:14 - past statements concerning
by wannabefree ini am just wondering .... one of the issues i would hold on to and i have used and heard others use in the ministry is about the preaching ... you know, only jehovah's witnesses are doing it, they are fulfilling this prophecy .... since the organization has predicted the date for armageddon in the past, did they ever make statements as to what degree this preaching had been accomplished or have explanations on this changed over the years as well?.

In The divine plan of the ages(I don't have the page #) Russell wrote that the preaching work was completed in the 19th century!

We had our special assembly day a couple of weekends ago. Some of the highlights:
It is futile to store up material things they will only end up in the landfill
talked about missing meetings for work, vacation, hunting, fishing taking too much time
Brother _____ from bethel gave a talk called" Don't use the world to the full but fully accomplish your ministry"
Don't get caught up using too much technology mentioned twitter, texting taking too much of our time.
talked about not getting caught up in borrowing lots of money because anxiety and distraction limits opportunities for preaching.
Ranted about the dangers of higher education and not to use the world to it's full
This is the good part: he talked about the "relative importance of marriage"
he said that many single pioneers are getting married and quitting the full time service, buying a house and a car.
He said they were putting their marriage ahead of Jehovah
Isn't that what Adam did??? he asked.
then the best:
A spiritual woman will never object to coming in second place to Jehovah
