KH = Private Property (No Trespassing sign)... wtf?
by Scully in.
do other churches have "no trespassing" signs on the grounds?.
i don't recall ever seeing "private property - no trespassing" signs on other churches, especially ones that have a priest or minister available at all hours, or ones that offer space for community services or other kinds of events.. i wonder whether there is some kind of legal expectation of a charitable organization that pays no taxes to offer access for community services in order to maintain their tax free status.. anyone else ever see signs like this on kh property?.

So let me get this straight. These guys put up a 'no tresspassing' sign, and expect people to obey it - but when they go door-knocking and see the very same sign in someone's yard... they can ignore it?
Go figure.
I apologize if I am off-topic, but this one really takes the cake.

DO THE MATH: The Jehovah's Witness PREMISE doesn't add up
by Terry inthere are approximately 216,000 babies born every day in the whole entire world.
if every woman every place on earth suddenly stopped conceiving at the same time, it would take 9 months for all the babies in wombs to be born.. .
how many babies would that be by the end of that 9 months?.

Your numbers and logic are good... the only problem I see with it is that JWs are poor at math (I.E. 607 & 1914 - a day for a year - etc.), and they will not be able to follow this easily.
Secondly, even if you are able to get them to realize that the math and numbers don't add up, they will shift into denial (not to be confused with de-Nile) mode and will wave it off with a 'if Jehovah wants those people to hear his word he can make the rocks cry out' - or some such. This was the drivel that my ex-wife gave me when I asked her about China and the lack of JWs there, to preach to the large population.
Methinks you have waaaaay too much time on your hands to be thinking about things like this. ;-)

My family just found out my grandfather died...6 months ago!
by noni1974 inyeah thatnks jw step grandmother bitch.
i can't believe that she would not call her step sons and let them know their father had passed away.
my father is a jw also and my little sister sees this woman at assemblies and she didn't bother to call anyone.

I am sorry to hear that you were not informed of the death in the family. It really sucks.
It is similar to my sister calling me to inform me that our mother had passed - and the funeral was going to be...
I had not known that she was dying. I got the same call that many others got - AFTER - she had passed. I let her know that I was displeased in being informed after the fact. I guess she got the message - because when my sister was on her deathbed, I got a phone call to let me know. (I didn't know she was dying either - but at least my older sister let me know prior to her passing.)
JWs have not got a good sense of how things are supposed to work.
My condolences on the loss of your grandfather.

I have, on occassion - but I don't make it my goal to anti-witness.
I have learned that there are a lot of people who either know a JW - or have a relative that is a JW. If the opportunity arises, then I will enlighten them with a few factoids. Most people have their own religions (which may also be wacko in its' own way), so I don't have to do much talking to get them to realize that the JWs are a bit odd in what they teach.

Do you give to beggars?
by jean-luc picard ini have seldom given money to beggars.
i have often thought that many are people who just do not want to work.
however, i am starting to wonder if i ought to: and how much to give?.
-
Jim_TX
I've done both. I've given money, and I've not given money. I don't have the smarts to know if a person is genuinely needing help or not, and so lately I have been giving less and less.
The reason? Well, locally, they have set up a program to help the homeless downtown. We're talking a new construction, fenced-in area, that is using tax dollars to support it. I reason that if folks are really in need, they'll make their way down there and get it. Some choose to not go there - for whatever reason that they have - or make up.
I also reason that if a 'homeless' person - or perhaps panhandler would be a better term - were to get $100 per day... that's a lot. It's unreported income. That is... they aren't going to file a tax return at the end of the year declaring the monies that they received the past year, panhandling - which could be quite a sum.
There are extenuating circumstances, of course. If someone comes up and I can see that they are really needing it, for whatever reason, I will give them something.
I agree with the other posters to offer food. I did that once, and the fella backed away from me like I had a contagious disease. He didn't want the food - he wanted the money. Plus, I learned that he had a home in a nice part of the neighborhood, and just had his hand out for extra income.
I will ask some of them if they are aware that 'panhandling' is against the law... many will scoot off into the shadows.
Police around here are nice to the homeless, in that if they spot them, they will approach them, and in some cases escort them to the homeless shelter downtown.
It's a rough world... but some choose to be homeless.

JW and Sham Honesty Story
by mankkeli inthe jws take pride in their honesty, for many years, this has been a strong marketing strategy for the purity of their religious dogma.
you may be familiar with many stories of their members retruning found wallet and so on, but here is an example found from the 2010 watchtower, march 15. .
"emilio, an italian witness who works as a driver for a public transport company, found a wallet containing 470 euros ($680, u.s.).

hahahaha - I remember as a kid in grade school... my older sister once found a Bic pen on the playground. (I think that they cost around a quarter back then... maybe more... it was over 45 years ago...)
Anyway, she took it in to the main office at the school and turned it in to the lost and found.
I think that there is a limit on what I would do to try to locate the 'owner' who may have lost something.
Remember... a lot of these stories are made up by fellas who haven't been out in the 'real world' since about the late 50's or early 60's. So, the 'flavor' of their stories reflects that era.

Angels are taking the lead in the preaching work
by mankkeli inconsider one experience in which two kingdom publishers were accompanied by a small child.
at the end of the morning, the two witnesses were about to stop their preaching work, but the child was unusually eager to go to the next home.
in fact, he went by himself and knocked on the door!

I just want to know when they're going to have the 'rocks cry out'?
I mentioned one time to my JW ex-wife how China had so few JWs to the large population there, and how was everyone in China going to 'hear the good news' before their 'end'?
She replied that Jeehober could make the rocks cry out - iffn he wanted to.
So, don't wake me - until that happens. I think that would be cool.

I hope that you are able to speak with them next time... and that they are discouraged from darkening your doorstep in the future.
It kinda reminds me of one time when I was a JW... there was this older anglo JW, Fred, and a younger Hispanic JW, Rudy, going door-to-door. The city that I live in has many Hispanics here, and the older gentleman knocked on a door, and a Hispanic fella answered it. He gave Fred a "I don't speak Eenglish." type of response, and Fred said something like, "Oh!" and then calls out to Rudy out at the sidewalk, on his way to the next door.
"Rudy", he sez, "come here and talk to this gentleman. He doesn't understand English."
Well, Rudy came up, and started talking Spanish to the fella at the door. Rudy knew Spanish very well, having been raised in a household where both his mother and father were from Mexico. He started his presentation in Spanish - speaking at 90-miles an hour.
The fella at the door said, "Whoa! Stop! I don't understand Spanish! I just told you that to try to get rid of you!"
It was funny.
