I wouldn't even waste film (or these days, digital storage) on any wtbts publications.
I see publications at the used merchandise stores like Goodwill or Texas Thrift whilst looking for some books to purchase.
I usually turn them around 180-degrees so that their spine is on the inside, and the pages outward. That way, no one can read the spine and see the title.
If I spot the mags in a business or laundromat, I will do my best to snag them and rip them into thirds. One lesson that I larnt at those boring meetings... 3 for emphasis. Hence... rip - rip - rip. Three times. Then toss into the nearest waste bin.

The elders want to see me also
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini mentioned a few times, that in terms of making my time for the past few months have been really difficult.simply because i cant teach something i don't fully believe...so my service has gone down,i used to comment a lot--haven't done that in a while----meeting attendance like normal but now i don't stay back after...or come early...or help with cleaning..... .
so some weeks ago the cobo asked me a completely irrelevant and in no way helpful question---"you did't think that i notice how upset you look these days----that's not a fruitage of god's spirit!".
yeah so today he saw me and asked me a series of question....all which i gave really short answers to...long story short--he says that he would like for me to meet wih the rest of the elders after memorial........ .

ummm... what troubled mind said above. The elders will not want to 'help out' with female issues.
In fact, you may want to carry an extra tampon with you, and pull it out of your purse, and say, "Excues me..." as you wave it about, and then leave.

Timing of "thinner magazines" announcement
by sir82 inthe announcement of the reduced number of pages in the watchtower & awake will be made after the watchtower study following the "special talk" on april 8.. theoretically, that's when there will be more visitors and "outsiders" than usual.
even the talk itself has 1/2 of its content directed at inactive jws.. obviously this reduction in pages has been in the works for several weeks if not months.
why pick that date to announce it?
-

amelia ashton - So all the time they filled 32 pages with their rubbish we weren't close to the end even though they said it was!
No, no, no... they were close to the end, but now, they're REAL close to the end. There's a difference. It's kinda like 'new light'.
The magazines will progressively get smaller and smaller - so that they won't have to carry that much literature with them as they go through the big A into the new system.
Of course, only those that are meek and have 'gods holy spirit' will be able to see and understand this. <insert eye roll>

So... is there a correlation between the number of pages and 'how close to the end'?
If they go from 32 to 16 pages, they're getting real close to the end.
In a few years, they can go from 16 to 8 years... and be even closer to the end.
A few years after that... or perhaps only months... they can go from 8 to 4 pages. They'll be reeeeeeal close to the end by then.
Makes sense to me...
Scenario #2:
A few months after they start publishing the 16-page magazines, they will announce, in another super-top-secret letter to the congregations that they are requesting that the publishers print their own 16-page magazines that they will then distribute to the masses. It's the theocratic thing to do, you know. (Of couse, those that do this will also be allowed to 'count the time' spent in printing the magazines.)
Scenario #3:
A variation of scenario #2, they will be asked to print the first pages of the current magazines from the internet site, and place this page 1 with the people in the d-2-d work, where they will be directed to the jw.org site to get the rest of the magazine.
Both scenarios 2 & 3 put the burden of supplying the paper and ink on the 'publishers'. (There's gotta be some scripture that can be twisted to make it sound 'holy', and right.)

Here's a "press release" written by an anonymous source that can be sent to the media about the thinner magazines
by AndersonsInfo inmarch 26, 2012. news item:.
jehovah's witnesses to reduce pages in watchtower & awake!
magazines.

I just find it hilarious. It would be good to have this 'press release' on some sort of printed paper, along with the letter from New York. There are lots of us that have relatives that are JW. Just hand this to them, let them read it, and then watch their denial (no, not the river) kick in.
Then when it gets announced from the platform, you can only imagine their shock at knowing this weeks or days in advance.
I know it won't cause any of those JWs to leave, but still... it would be funny to play with them.
After all, this announcement is supposed to be 'top secret'.
The only thing that I see that may thwart it is... if the entire announcement is a hoax. An April Fool's gag, if you will... from Brooklyn. (Of course, we all know that JWs don't 'celebrate' holidays, including April Fools, so they have to make sure it is released AFTER April Fools Day.)

Things you did to pass the time at meetings/service/assemblies/conventions/memorials
by OneDayillBeFree ini'm currently at the meeting again... i'm always in the back working the sound cause everyone else can't seem to work it and i'm mostly on my phone reading jwn or writing, or doodling or sometimes i just stare at the audience to see who's falling asleep or daydreaming.
its really the only way i can still sit through these things.. but i remember getting the number of a girl i used to like at one district convention and we would text each other during the program and talk about how boring it was.. i also remember sneaking out of a circuit assembly and going to see a car show that was going on right next door.
that was fun!.

At meetings: This was difficult as a little kiddo. It's difficult to sit still for 2 hours. Of course, back when I was a kid, I seem to remember that there was a 15 minute break in between the public talk and watchtower meeting. This gave me a chance to go outside and see what was going on out there. It usually turned into a game of tag with other kids. We were then summoned back inside for the opening song of the watchtower study.
When I got older, I had an interest in electronics, and gravitated towards the sound part of the kingdom hall. I don't think I was appointed, I just started hanging out at the back, learning how to control the volume of the microphones. It could get real challenging on the nights when the women would talk, and had very soft voices. Turning up the volume sometimes only went into feedback (...weeeeeeeeee...) and frowny looks from those elders who had no sense of humor. I think eventually I was 'appointed' to handle the sound when I got good at it. Actually, I don't think many knew enough about it to do more than twist knobs hoping to get it to work.
I got so that I would bring in new gadgets and hook into the system to see what would happen if... like the time I purchased an amplifier at goodwill. That introduced all sorts of interesting amplified sounds.
At assemblies: I tried to get there early enough to hang out back stage at the sound section. Even as a young teen, I almost idolized those brothers who got to handle the microphones and adjust the sound. They really had control over what went out to the audience. If they turned the knobs to zero, nothing was heard. Power.
Even when I wasn't welcomed, I would just melt into the curtains, and become invisible, still hoping for someone to wave me over and allow me to help out.
I learned that if I wore a nice suit, eventually, I was allowed to go and adjust the microphone for the speaker. I fumbled that one time when they utilized a new type of microphone stand that you just squeezed and turned the black adjustment ring. I turned red as a beet, and just made some sort of wiggle to the microphone, making it look like I had adjusted it, and hastily left. I later practiced and learned how this new device worked.
Listening to the meetings was not the most exciting part of any assembly, but I did try to follow along at times. Knowing when to clap helped.
Being in 'sound' allowed me to wander around a lot. I eventually bought a holster that I could put wire cutters and a pocket knife into, and along with a roll of black electrical tape, I looked very important. I could also get into any other department, even accounting. "I need to check the sound in here." was all it took.
I would get to know all assembly sites inside and out. I would know how to get from point A to point B in a matter of minutes.
Let's face it. Meetings were boring. If I had to sit and listen, I would invariably start to nod off.
When I got old enough, I remember spending one assembly sitting next to a lovely young gal named Rhonda , but she wasn't really interested in me. <sigh>
A couple of years after I got married, I pretty much qiut going to meetings and assemblies.

CRAZINESS!!! I'M BEING 'MARKED' FOR GOING TO COLLEGE!!!
by MsGrowingGirl20 inohmygosh!!!
one of my friends who is a ms told me today that the elders have 'marked' me because i'm a reg.pioneer and i've decided to go to college next semester???!
he said he can't tell me anymore but to be careful---what the hell does 'mark' mean?
-
Jim_TX
I'm sorry that you are being put under any emotional stress by a bunch of fools.
If ever called into the 'back room', for a discussion about your choice to go to college, I wonder if you could tell them that you are going for a law degree (even if it isn't true), as you know the headquarters is needing more lawyers, and your goals are to work for the WTBTS in... well, it used to be Brooklyn. (Again - even if it isn't true).
That should spin their heads around.
Good Luck in your college classes! Hang in there!

Attended a JW funeral the other day
by uk_ex_jw ini had an account on here sometime ago but forgot the login, but i often read the site.. a long-term friend of mine, a jw, asked me to go to his grandmothers jw funeral a few weeks ago.. i was hesitant obviously.
i haven't been to a kh in over 5 years.. i am not df/da.
i decided to quit in 2007 following my failed marriage to a jw.. the person who died was a very well-respected jw pioneer.

"It must be hard for the JW's to see people, who they never thought would die, dropping one by one. No wonder they revert to type, a sales pitch to try and rally the troops and intensify their efforts. "
My condolences to the family who lost a member of their family. It was good of you to go and support your friend.
Regarding your comment above, I remember going to my mother's funeral almost 10 years ago. I overheard my older sister telling a fellow jw, "Well, we all thought that the new system would be here by now..." in an almost pleading voice. They don't realize... it ain't coming.

How to Record a Judicial Meeting
by 00DAD inintroduction: this subject came up on another thread and seemed important enough to justify its own thread:.
judicial hearing procedure, chapter 7. recording devices.
"recording devices should not be allowed.
-
Jim_TX
Just remember though. The microphones on the recording devices are very sensitive. You don't want to put the recorder in your pocket and then be moving around a lot. The fabric moving and other rubbing noises will be louder than the voices in the room.
