What do you do with your old liturature?
by Gadget in.
i'm in the middle of decorating my new house, and was a bit stuck as to what to use to mask off the furniture/carpets etc until i spotted an oldv pile of watchtowers that i'd been meaning to throw out.
i now have paint spattered watchtowers all over my living room.. anybody else got any good things to use old liturature for?

Ever come close to blows with another witness?
by Dimples ini once went to a baby shower for a sister and planned on having a good time.
there were only sisters there and some brought their children.
the shower was held at a community center clubhouse.

Remind Your Relatives To Shun You!
by metatron inlook, i get confused!.
the problem is that witnesses these days are often so uninvolved and lacking in real friendship that i don't know if they're.
shunning me or not!

How long do you think being a JW will affect you?
by Adam ini haven't been on this board for a while.
i've been on a conservative ezboard trying to see if we can't do something about political issues.
i've also got a new job, had to get the car fixed, been best man in a wedding, and watched the two towers on vhs.

I've been out for 24 years. It still gnaws at me a couple times a year when I think about my folks (they're still in).

Stumbling on John 3:16
by Beans infrom what i can tell having searched the watchtower site and discs there seems to be no reference to this scripture as it goes against the teachings of the watchtower.
when the two sisters came to my door and i brought up the topic they were stumbled and on another jw web site the question was asked if there was anywhere in the bible where it says that other than gods chosen people could they be saved the jw's did not accept this scripture as well.. does is not seem odd that as one of the scriptures avoided by the watchtower, it is so avoided that it has never sunk into there brains to have any meaning!.

"...He gave His only begotten son..."
Interesting... If He gave his son (not sold), why do the dubs work so hard to get approved?

I've heard all about you!
by SM62 ini have heard about this forum from someone, but i won't say who as i don't want to expose them.
i am in the process of evaluating my life as a jw.
it has been a pretty sad life - without a real feeling of 'belonging'.

Clean, Clean the Kingdom Hall
by Euphemism inthree pages of this month's insert are dedicated to the article "let us keep our place of worship in good repair.
" yes, that's 38 minutes of service meeting time devoted to instructions on cleaning and maintaining the kingdom hall.. aside from just the utter ridiculousness and infantilization of this, what really struck me was: "when was the last time that there was a three-page insert on visiting the sick?
" if the wts devoted half as much organization and attention to such a basic christian duty as it does to the cleaning of the kingdom hall, the organization would be a better place.. i know, nothing new.

Moral absolutes
by Aztec ini keep saying i am going to start a thread on this topic so here goes.... what, if anything, is always morally wrong?
murder, rape, incest?
how much do you think your belief, or lack thereof, in a higher power influences your opinion?.

My two bits are: Saying,"There are no moral absolutes," is asserting a moral absolute in-and-of-itself.
Hmmm...

Assembly picketing
by freedom96 in.
when i went to the assemblies, i would see people picketing, holding signs up, etc.
you would have "security" to look out for green bibles, and keep opostates out.. i never looked at them with hatred, never really gave it much thought at all.. i am curious if anyone here has participated in protesting the assemblies, and what were the reactions?
