  below, the author gives an example of how outsiders to most religions examine those religions critically, and dimiss them.

  turning a critical eye towards my beliefs was a bit scary, but i decided it was the only proper thing to do, for me.

  I find atheism to be a device for regaining one's personal power after a debilitating encounter with religious authority.

  What about people that don't beleive in God ever? Or are you specifically referring to once religious people that become atheist? If so, my question is moot.

  As for me....I don't even see why someone needs an argument for atheism or to believe in god. I say "who cares what you believe as long as you aren't trying to effect my life with it?" Of course, that last bit, about trying to impose standards on others when they don't have the same belief, that's wrong whether one is an atheist, christian, muslim, taoist, or just cranky old neighbor.

  Ana_dote himself just stated when he was writinghe couldn't be bothered with any distraction or anything else and the music came out of nowhere. That's very self centered.

  That's called being in the zone. It happens you are completely focused on the task at hand. It happens to programmers, runners, musicians, to people playing golf, writing a story, putting together a spreadsheet, when people are having sex. It has nothing in particular to do with music except that is a form of art that almost everyone enjoys.

  I find it interesting that while God tolerated music making with mechanical instruments in the old testament

  Uh, how do you get that in the biblical stories it was "tolerated"? In fact, polygamy wasn't outlawed in the NT. Music wasn't commented on one way or another.

  Many of the musicians quoted above have completely surrendered to this and are actually willing to be a vessel for Satan.

  So anytime you are "in the zone" (and remember that a lot of those musicians were using LOTS of drugs at the time) you are a vessel for satan? Uh oh, that 5K I ran last week was for Satan and his damn breast cancer cure events! Watch out, that spreadsheet I made for datacenter usage trend analysis over the past year was for Satan!

  I did try drugs as a young woman.

  I'm doing caffeine and nicotine right now. I've never done anything harder than Scotch (without a prescription, that is). I've seen Metallica 3 times, Sabbath twice, Nick Cave, Steve Miller band, Clutch twice, Chevelle, NIN, Rob Zombie, AC/DC....I don't really worship Satan, though...

  What, exactly, does it cost an atheist to admit to the possibility of God?

  Because all too often the religious use their idea of what religion should be to get their way or try to determine how others should live. I mean, no atheists ever started a war over which was wasn't real or tried to use the the lack of a god to justify slavery or prevent two people in love from getting married.

  I am not suggesting that ALL christians are like that, but all too often religion/god/the bible/the koran is used to justify horrific things and impose a will on others that have no interest.

  Could mans curiosity be the best proof that God does exist?

  Does this mean that Nessie, the abominable snowman, sasquatch, basically everything they talk about on Coast to Coast AM, also exists because people are also curious about those things?

  I know God exists because of the impossibility of the contrary.

  2. offer a heterosexual male a night with a hot chick or a hot dude...is the outcome really "choice"?

  This does seem to be an overriding need in you, driven by forces that you have no control over. A lack of free will no less!

  You are free to think that. You are incorrect, but free to think it. Imagine that, free will at work.;)

  Terry has, as always, avoided becoming rattled.

  I think I would disagree with that, but again, perhaps I don't know him well enough.
