i haven't, but i just watched a documentary on it.
the author's premise is that the idea of jesus as a god coming to earth came out of egyptian mythology and that there is no real archeological evidence that jesus actually existed.
Sorry, I meant Socrates.
In that case my answer would be this....so? People don't go around starting wars over what Socrates thought or said and telling other people how to live their life. People don't worship Socrates and insist that others do the same.
If Jesus were considered on the same playing field as Socrates then the question would be more fair.

Sure they had their issues with the Church and the church with them, the the church supported them and many other scientists over the centuries.
As long as their ideas didn't conflict with the Church. I mean, the Church finally apologized to Galileo, what, 3 years ago? "Ooops, sorry we tried to destroy your life because your science didn't agree with us."

If the Christian movement seriously impeded science, then what seriously impeded it in non-Christian nations?
Mainly oriental nations?
Why do you prefer to focus on oriental nations?
But, for reference...Arabic and Persian societies had invented algebra and the concept of zero in math for one example. Today we see a huge anti-science movement among a large section of more fundamentalist Christians. In the orient they were using cannons and had gunpowder....

There is as much historical proof that Jesus existed as there is the others like Aristole existed.
Could you provide as much? For instance, we know where Aristotle went to school, where he worked, who he taught, we have reams of HIS writings, who his teachers were, who his wife was and when she died, numerous accounts from teachers, students and other contemporaries of various sources.
We don't have that for Jesus.
The whole notion of Christanity holding b ack science is over blown, it didn't.
Read the works of Augustine Hippo as an example.
Augustine was a priest, theologian and philosopher, not a scientist.

The number four talk last night was on evolution. Interestingly, the brother that gave the talk literally said "The bible doesn't say Jehovah created every species, just that he created all the animals according to their kind. That means that all of the different species are just variations on the different kinds that Jehovah created, so we can see that evolution is incompatible with itself when it tries to claim that all the different species evoled independently from nothing."
I was (mentally) shaking my head and laughing. Basically, the guy made the argument that evolution happens, just that god kicked it off. Evolution is NOT the study of how life started, it's how life has changed over time. Evolution does not seek to explain the origin, that is abiogenesis. It's hilarious to me, in a sad way, that he just argued FOR Intelligent Design in a talk designed to disprove evolution.
