  Terry...sometimes your writings are brilliant, other times (like this), it seems like you are reaching too hard to make a point and go down a rathole.

  Oh, except the Book of Numbers (which is rather counter-intuitive) which contains no numbers itself.

  Two isn't a number, but two = 2 = "a whole integer between one and three" = "a whole integer between 1 and 3" = 4-2 = 4 minus 2 = one + three = three subtracted from 5.

  Just because words are used to represent numbers rather than the "numbers" 0 - 9 doesn't make them any less valid a representation. In fact, 0 - 9 aren't numbers themselves either, but merely a way to represent the numbers.

  You make some good points a lot of the time, but this post seems like you went down a huge rathole.

  i haven't, but i just watched a documentary on it.

  the author's premise is that the idea of jesus as a god coming to earth came out of egyptian mythology and that there is no real archeological evidence that jesus actually existed.

  The message of the Gosples is greater than the "miracles" therein.

  I would be more inclined to agree if there were a general consensus on the message.

  You're being a totally patronising jerky. I havn't been jerky in this thread at all.

  I wasn't referring to this thread. You posted a different thread to read with your points and within the first page you got seriously bent out of shape and went off on someone in a jerk fashion. In that OTHER thread, at that point, I quit reading because I don't feel like reading through jerky comments to get to what might be a point.

  If there is a point you want to make in THIS thread, feel free to make it. I would love to read it.

  I'm coming to this thread really late and I haven't read much of the discussion that has been going on lately, but just to add some general points:

  just got back from memorial.

  only went so that i could say to my parents that i had gone and to remind myself why i left.. oh my word!!!

  it was sooooo painful.. got there a bit late - it was a couple of minutes into the talk.

  In fact, when the bread and wine were being passed around, he put far more emphasis on how exactly the bread and wine were made than what he did about Jesus. He even suggested what kinds of wines could be used, like a Pinet Noir or a Cabernet Savignon. I'm sure Jesus was tickled pink that there was more mention made of this than of him dying for mankind.

  This had to be a 100% scripted talk this year. Mine was EXACTLY the same.

  i think they were all the same. bethel speaker for us, mentioned over 10000 partakers last year. only two people showed up from all the invitations sent out, barely had more than 50 more than a regular meeting.

  speaker couldn't finish an entire sentence without look at his notes, it seemed he was reading verbatim. i need to mention to the SO about how weird it is that the numbers haven't changed and in fact are 20% higher than 4 years ago. In fact, I think I am going to get "super spiritual" over the next few weeks so that my disagreement with the new generation teaching will seem genuine. "but, this is SO important, the word generation doesn't mean that at all, ever. I don't get it". and then somehow work that into a 607 research, all to "prove" or "strengthen" my faith.

  hopefully i'll be able to shove it up the WTS ass.

  most likely i'll end up divorced hoping to get to see my kids...
