  i wanted to make a few comments to those of you that have recently begun to question or have already left the wt and made their way onto this site.

  this site is a great resource to learn how others are coping with leaving the organization and moving on into a fulfilling life.. i wanted to write this post because i think reading something like this would've been helpful to me to understand where a lot of people that comment on this site are coming from.

  you are going to hear from a wide range of people that have moved on to a diverse range of beliefs.

  .... and answered :) It's mathematically a fact that Tom Waits kics ass. And I love the Ramones.

  Seriously my friend, this is part of debate I see people struggling with most often, who needs to provide proof and when. When a person (you in this case, me in others) makes an assertion (reality is subjective) you don't say "Prove me wrong". We get to say to YOU "Prove it" and either you have to show your cards or fold.

  Oh, and Bone Machine (I think OTTOMH that "Don't Wanna Grow" was on Bone Machine) was an album full of pure awesome. Earth Died Screaming, Dirt in the Ground, In The Coloseum, Going out West, Murder in the Red Barn, Who are You, Little Rain....great great album.

  Gary, couple points of clarity....

  But I'd heard the Big Bang was the origin, the matter, energy, and light expanded from the bang.

  No one knows if it was the origin. It was the starting point for the current expansion.

  The outer rim is the event horizon where nothing indigenous to the universe can pass through.

  That's one idea. It could be that space/time is a property OF the universe or that this matter is expanding in an existing space/time. We really have no idea how large the outer edge is in either case, just how far away we can see.

  Evidence is the favorite buzz word of atheists/anti-theists/agnostics.

  Evidence isn't a buzzword.

  Unless you test something for yourself you are taking the word of someone else.

  So? The fact that you can test it or watch someone else test is important.

  However we all know that only because many people will atest that something is true doesn't always make it so (example: cults).

  Test cults? I am not sure how that relates actual science.

  If you test something for yourself then you are limited to the facts and logic that are available to you (I think we can all agree that we do not have the full picture) and you are limited to your senses (I think we can agree that our senses can play tricks on us).

  Or we can share information and collaborate and increase the shared knowledge pool. If someone were to be falisifying results then that would become apparent to the group. You are limited to your senses as to what we can percieve, yes, but we also are NOT limited to just our senses. We can make tools to test for things that our senses cannot.

  If you are trusting that things are so, without fully and actually knowing, isn't that then a leap of faith?

  You wrote all that just to say that? Sure. Everyone takes tiny leaps of faith every day. Why are you surprised at this?

  Interesting to me that some of you consider taking a leap of faith a fault in theists, claiming that they do not think, when we all do the same and take a leap of faith no matter what you believe or lack belief in.

  Ah, got it. You see, based on the things you attempted to dismiss earlier, shared evidence, results from tests, experience, we all presume certain things ARE. For instance, I have faith that the sun will rise tomorrow because in the entire history of man (shared experience) and the history of my life (personal experience), it has never failed to do so. Similarly, I can walk up a flight of stairs without looking at each step because i have faith based on my personal experience the step next step will be there.

  See, the difference is that despite leaps of faith, there is demonstrable and repeatable evidence that can be demonstrated to others. In the case of god, no such evidence exists, no universal agreement on the nature of god, whether his holy books are right or what the mean, how many gods there are, etc.

  But to answer your question, no. When "birth" of that light... the event itself... created the physical universe and all that governs it, ALL laws and properties, including those that govern electromagneticism. Gravity, etc.

  So the collision of photons = the creation of christ = the creation of the universe?

  *I believe that it was the interaction of the light WITH the void... that caused the event.

  What do you mean by "void"

  Like, the light "broke up" the void... or made a path through it... so that something like dust or "fragments" appeared.

  So....dust ....fragments....that's matter. How did it exist before the event?
