Belief Polerization: A possible reason JWs are more convinced when facing critical information.
by bohm insuppose two people, alice and bob, have different views upon some controversial issue.
we might imagine alice is a jehovahs witness and bob is an doubting relative, and the issue could be: is jehovahs witnesses gods organization.
now we give them both new information, some favorable to the issue being true, others unfavorable.

The Issue is Not that God WANTS Us to Suffer...

Hey syl, i read that. Yep, said he would make everything new, not that he would fix what was already here.

Stuff like that.
Oh, well, then let's go :)
Bad
Brought flood, plagues
Allowed satan to corrupt his creation
allowed angels to breed with humans
changed languages of humans to cause confusion
dislocated jacob's hip for...fun?
hardned pharoh's heart in order to kill an army
killed caananites for no other reason that living in the land god wanted them to have
forced adult men to mutilate thier penises
forced subjucation of women
forced women to marry their rapists
showed no tolerance for disable and deformed persons by refusing them entry to priesthood
Ordered killing of children, women
Allowed slavery
allowed murder of slaves as long as they suffered for a day or two before they died
killed children for minor offenses such as making fun of man because he was bald
condoned human sacrifice
contradictory and confused written message
After condemning man to death for the actions of one, decided torting and letting is son be murdered instead would be better than forgiveness
allowed children to be killed by Herod in Jesus' stead
said he would return, had his inspired word predict quick return, 2000+ years later, still out for coffee
Good
Creation
Sustains life
Appointed, protected Savior's lineage
Written Message
Sent Savior to die in our stead
Resurrected Savior
Promise of future Coming

I agree that babies are innocent of wrongdoing, yet they, too, are sinners.
What sin have they committed?

NVL, are you sure you're reading the Bible???
Can you show me where Revelation 21 and 22 says any of that? I mean says it, not says something that you want to interpret as saying that. And I like the classic avoidance technique. Rather that prove what you say is true, just call into question the person asking the question!

No, it was a great topic, it was just long.
I can sum up...some people have no critical thinking skills and don't want them. They tend to be theistic, close minded morons, but not always. And certainly not everyone that believes in God is a moron.

However, we are the clay, God the Potter. He can and does do with us as He sees fit.
So much for free will.
Perhaps, for the first time?
I have already read it, how can I read it again for the first time?
Heaven is coming HERE!
No, it says everything will be created new and everything former will pass away. There won't be a "here", there will new a new place.
People are going to be cured!
It never says that.

Bad stuff has happened to me, my kids, and my g'kids, NVL.
Do I blame God? Not on your life!
You should. They aren't innocent. He allowed that to happen.
Revelation chapters 21/22 give us a peek into the wonderful future in store for us.
You can dress in all white and hang out in the city of the lamb? Everything thinks that says that god is going to make US better, but it says every tear will be wiped out. Everything will be new. No Sylvia, no me, none of your daughters. Everything will be new.

The problem here is comparing God to ourselves; it cannot - and should not - be done.
Why? God created us in his image, he expressed emotions like we do, he is completely anthropomorphised by his own inspired writings. Children always compare themselves to their parents. God had friends and conversed with them, allowed them to presuade him, felt love, regret. Other than the indiscriminate killing and display of random destructive power, he is just like us. Why shouldn't we compare ourselves to him or him to us?

Just keepin' it real, Mr. Texas.
Just remember that when something bad happens to one of your kids. That god you love is probably smiting them for something you did. Or just because they deserved it for being alive.
Has He not promised to intervene and straighten out this mess?
No, he didn't. An unknown writer said Jesus would restore spriritual Israel and melt the heavens and the earth. It didn't really say much about "straightening out this mess".
