I rarely paid alot of attention. I had a whole fantasy world going on, usually rated R or higher.

Ugly brothers?
by dgp into respond to serenity now's question on another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/191790/2/ugly-sisters, let me start this thread about ugly brothers in congregations.
women, speak freely if you will.
were there any hot men in your congregations, i mean, men you wouldn't think twice about marrying?

Thanks dgp! Actually I've had crushes on some really cute JW guys. One recently who was so cute, had me thinking about going back to the KH, then I was like, no still not worth it. He was very hot though, he did not stay on the market long.

Hmm, the feminist part of me wonders when we will have as many threads about ugly, fat, unattractive men, as we do about women.
BTW, OP, what are you bringing to the table lookswise?

Using funerals to recruit members
by keyser soze ini heard a somewhat amusing story from a co-worker over lunch.
he said he was at a funeral for a jw relative, and they had a registry for guests to sign.
his wife signed the registry, and included their home address.

Mindmelda, that Fred Phelps guy of the Westboro church is a disgusting person. I do not know how he can justify what he does,

That is unreal! Who does that?
I thought you were going to talk about trying to recruit people while at the funeral. I am slightly ashamed to admit having gone to worldly funerals, usually for my patients, where I have shared scriptures with the family and a "when a loved one dies" brochure or 2. I may have also left some magazines in the ladies room in the funeral home. I really did want to be comforting and share the hope of a resurrection. I hope the people can forgive me if they found it offensive.

Joining JW's using the 'bait - n - switch' method
by babygirl30 ini used to work in advertising, and more specifically, with automotive dealers.
a lot of them are notorious (even though it's illegal) for the 'bait-n-switch' sales tactic: they advertise one loaded model car, customer calls in and is interested in that particular advertised model, the dealer claims to have it and so the customer stops in to drive it, and then bam!
dealers suddenly doesn't have the advertised model but offers the customer another low-end model for apprx the same price.. for some reason that reminds me of how people come into the jw religion.

What's really sad is that those of us who were born in never even got a chance to listen to the sales pitch and make our own decision to join.

Would You "Technically" Remain A Jehovah's Witness If There Were No Sanctions Involved?
by minimus inmany of us have drifted.
we know it isn't the truth but we might not have officially resigned as jws.
many catholics are nominal catholics and they are not shunned or avoided because of their not going to church or confession.. would you remain a jw if the organization didn't punish you for your inactivity?.
-

Technically I still am, even though I have not turned in time in 8 years. I do consider myself, and tell others that I am an EX JW.

What Are Some Of The Dumbest Beliefs JW's Have?
by minimus ini know there are a lot.. one belief i never understood is that blood fractions might be ok for a christian but not "whole blood".
to me the "blood doctrine" is ridiculous from a scriptural point of view..

Things I thought were dumb:
All prophecies have modern day fulfillment to FDS.
144,000 is a literal number that was somehow not filled until the 30s- but apparently still isn't filled because even more are partaking now.
No one was serving God before CT Russell came along.
Miracle Wheat
Beth Sarim
Can't question FDS, elders, or any male in the org.
Anything about any medical matters, esp blood.

privilleges equals spirituality
by stillin inwhat a sad joke!
posters here talk about the "do more" pushiness in the organization and that is so true!
elders just assume that you want to carry microphones and work your way up the spiritual ladder to that blissful state of total immersion in "kingdom matters.

stillin that is so true!
I remember when I thought I was in love with this brother. I made the mistake of remarking to a couple of my friends that I wish he didn't have to be up during the meeting handling mikes and the sound, etc, but sitting hugged up w/me during the meeting. They looked at me like I was crazy, they were like, "he's reaching out, blah, blah blah." It's all garbage.
