New CO talk: Be loyal to Org. even if you get weird instructions or can prove them wrong doctrinally!

theme was something about "loyalty to jehovah's visible organization".. i have neither the time nor inclination to summarize the whole thing, but a few points stood out:.

even if it causes you personal hardship.

example: joshua & caleb returned from spy trip to promised land with good report, but were "outvoted" by the other 10 spies.

This sounds like the CO talk I heard back in February. He gave this far out experience of how a Kingdom Hall was ambushed and the elders told the friends to walk out the front door and keep walking straight and that the police were there and would protect them. One brother decided to go out the back door because nobody was near that door when he looked out of it. The CO said that brother was the only person killed, because he was the only one who didn't follow the elders' directions.

Everybody was just grinning and eating it up. I was thinking "this is Grade-A WT propoganda here".

A Quick Couple of Questions To Ponder on "The End"

so, will the jw's be ridiculing the people who believe the world will end in 2012 and at the same time be proclaiming that the world will end at any time real soon, possibly even during 2012?.

is the new "generation overlap" thing designed to get members focused on imminence yet also get them past 2012 and 2014, the one-hundred year anniversary of the birth of the last days?.

My former PO told me last week that he has been in this 69 years (whole life) and he is convinced that the end is only weeks away...possibly as long as a few months.

i decided to dig into this matter myself at the public library yesterday.

i examined every book i could find that contained facts about jerusalem.

Basically, WT insists upon 607 because of their interpretation of one prophecy. Being that I have seen hundreds of WT prophecies go unfulfilled and turn out to be only some man's wild imaginative writings, I'm not gonna put any stock into a WT interpretation of a scripture. The destruction of Jerusalem was a pretty big event in history, so I will just go with the secular proof on this one. There is rarely "new light" in secular proof, so the findings usually hold up..LOL

Thanks everybody for the comments. I have really enjoying hearing everybody's thoughts.

How often did you get donations from the HH in the FS?

because in my experiance it was once in a blue moon!

even if we did ask/ suggest for money.

most of the contributions put in the box were out of the jw's own pocket.

The last few years, I felt really embarrassed asking for donations. So I usually didn't.

Local Needs

i just wondered, for those that are fading, what was your congregations local needs for this week?

and for those who have been out awhile, what were some of the problems uncovered during local needs?.

Most of our local needs were about money. Give more. That seemed to be a common thread. Not every time, but a whole lot.

And Desilusionnee - one more thing. When a person reaches the point where they have an open mind, it only takes about 15 to 30 minutes with the right book in their hand and they are OUT. It takes a lot of work to get the mind open, but once it's there - you are over the hump.

Desilusionnee - give it time. It takes multiple things. Slowly but surely. Even if he doesn't believe it, he has seen it and will remember it. Once you have put many things out there that don't make sense, it starts to build up. And here's a key point: you won't ever know what point really HIT HOME exactly until he is out and can tell you what did it. But by using many different topics, you can lay a firm foundation of things he believes that are not supported by facts - and hopefully eventually something will stimulate serious thinking.

i even like the name.. i can say "yum install blah.rpm" and everything just works!.

I was quite adept at Ubuntu last year. And Ubuntu server as well. Ran it as my main OS for about six months.

How dangers is field service really, has anyone ever heard of someone being hurt or killed while doing some form of witnessing

ok my other thread was not totally what i was after.

after thinking it through i was wondering if any of you have ever heard of someone being hurt by a householder in field service.. .

like i mentioned in my latest thread about the sister who was murdered and then her death was blamed on her.. i know in the hall i grew up in there were many sex offenders living in the area.

My bible study of two years murdered his wife (separated at the time) in cold blood. About 9 years ago.
