Yes, the elder's teenage son told me that he was engaging in "extra curricular activities" with the teenage neighbor girl. Long story short - the elder got deleted.

by mentallyfree31 injust curious...how many of you went to the elders and reported to them things that you heard through gossip?
.
and how many of you knew things that could get people disfellowshipped, but decided not to tell the elders?.

My Parents First Taste Of Being Shunned Since They DA'd.
by mentallyfree31 inmy parents sent their da letter back in march.
my mom bumped into a jw who has been a friend since 1985, in fact they were baptized the same day at the same convention.
this particular jw quit attending meetings in 1996. my mom saw her in a grocery store.

Clarification: She definitely knew my mother was disassociated. She is a close friend of some active JW's, and there is no doubt that she knew probably within days of it being announced.

Is the GB setting up to dump 1914?
by karter inwith the "generation change" and them changing it all the time it would make sence to dump it all togeather.. lets face it ,it can be disproved easly.. they dumped 1975 in a heart beat .. this would buy them all the time they wanted as they would just find another date to start the generation from ie: "the u.n year of peace and sercurty'',1986 i belive or whatever else they could think of.. they could sell it to the r&f as easly as they sold 1975,then dumped it when it did'nt happen .. anyone questioning them would be told they are running ahead of jehovah or lacking faith in his earthly org that feeds us food at the proper time .. what do you think?.

Let me just point this out: Jehovah's Witnesses have been accepting changes in major doctrines for over 130 years. The religion is bigger today than it has ever been. True, 1914 is the BIGGEST doctrine of all probably.
However, when I tried to discuss how 1914 is false with my wife, she immediately said "it doesn't really matter". It's still God's organization.
Just a thought.

Now a college graduate!!!
by Doubting Bro inwanted to let everyone know that i've finally graduated college with a bachelors degree!
ended up earning magna cum laude.. it's difficult to describe the sense of accomplishment.
i still kick myself for listening to the wts when i was a kid and forsaking "higher education".

Congratulations! That is great.
I threw away a paid scholarship to college so I could pioneer. I very much want to go back and get a college degree. Not sure if that will happen or not.

If 1914, 144,000, and this generation were dropped...
by sayitsnotso inwhat would happen?.
aren't these three related things some of the hardest to explain to interested people?
most jws don't focus on these teachings at first and will instead focus on more appealing bible teachings.

Regardless of what they may or may not drop, I have dropped them...and will NEVER be back.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?
by minimus ini've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".
the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

I was approached by an attendant once and he was holding a tissue in his hand and he asked me to spit my gum into the tissue. I was very young when this happened. It was when my family first started studying and one of the first meetings we ever attended.

Thanks for the comments everybody.
I'm drawing the conclusion that there is lots of dirty stuff going on in the congregations that NEVER gets told to the elders. I thought most people went to the elders when they knew things were going on, but according to the comments here it looks like I was wrong.
Interesting..

Let me mention a little context here that will make this story even more bizzare. Get ready to laugh..
The SAME day, my mom stopped in another store and bumped into a longtime faithful member of the congregation for the last 50 years. This lady (who is 70+ years old) ran right up and hugged my mother and told her they miss her so much. She asked how she was and asked "what happened?" My mom replied "it's a very long story". The sister told her again that they miss her and that they miss me also, since I haven't attended in several months since I woke up.
My mom has also seen two or three other JW's from the local congregation over the last 2 months. My mother has spoken to all of them, and they have all spoken back and said hello.
Soooooo, the ONLY person who refused to speak to her was the person who has been inactive for 15 years.

Sign of the Last Days by Carl Oloff Johnson - Have you read it?
by mentallyfree31 ini started reading sign of the last days by carl oloff johnson this week.
i am almost to page 50 right now, and have finished the section on world famines.
wow - he really deconstructs the idea of whether famines have increased or decreased over the past 2,000 years.

In the earthquakes chapter, which I read today, he shows blatant misrepresentations by the WTS. The same stuff they always do: takes quotes out of context, misquoting sources. Pretty much like the cross issue. They say the author claims one thing, and the author is actually saying exactly the opposite.
My brother (who is on the forum here - leavingwt - surprise surprise!!!) has read Carl Oloff Johson's other book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered". He says it is an incredible book. It's on my to do list.
