the recent story by confuzzled777 about being d'fd for drinking a few times got me thinking.
what about gluttony?.
some scriptures that spring to mind are proverbs 23:2, i cor 6:9-10 etc.. has anyone you know been d'fd for gluttony?
So it's not just a case of a bunch of elders being able to pick on a fat kid and get him d'fd? Simply eating one huge meal in front of two witnesses whether you are overweight or not could get you shunned?

Noni1974 - I never expected to get an actual example. So she would have had to go to the KH for years to come with people (at least elders if it was a private reproof) checking out her weight?

how do i make a long story short?
i am fully aware that if anyone in my area were to read this that they will know who i am.
i was disfellowshipped on january 28th 2010 after an "interview" about an evening of bowling with friends and family back in november 2009. i was among 4 who were disfellowshipped and 6 who were publicly reproved.
Wow. I read your post and felt your horror. Horror because I would have been d'fd along with almost every young person I knew many times over! I often went out drinking with pioneers and elders and someone could have taken exception anytime. I'm in no doubt they could d'f or reprove 5 or 6 million JW's if they enforced this consistently. Sorry this fell on you - it wouldn't have happened in Rutherford's day!
There was one bethelite I knew who was taken off as MS and had restrictions due to having three drinks in one night during a weekend away. (I am telling this second hand - he never told me details personally). He was so annoyed - knowing he'd been stitched up and made an example of.
You have been treated like a criminal as if you'd been drink driving and killed someone, not been repentant and convicted using a totally unfair process without a right of appeal. Is that how it feels? I'm not surprised you have had difficulty coping with this, even excluding that you are now being shunned etc.
You did nothing wrong. You had a good night out and didn't do anyone any harm.
You have had a shocking but unique insight into how high up people run this organisation. This is a story that many on JWN will be interested in and also probably any worldly person you told this to. Thank you for sharing it.
Welcome to the board and please feel free to ask any questions - I've found so many knowledgeable (and fun (and a little off the wall)) people on here

i stopped whilst still an active witness, just cancelled my direct debit and told myself i would put money in the box to cover things like literatrash and heat and light sometimes, and sometimes i did , but that dropped off.. the thing is, i cannot really pin down what my motive was at the time, i still thought then that it was god's org.. but i just stopped giving them money.
why ?
i dunno.. when and why did you stop giving them money ?.
I couldn't give much because I was a young poor pioneer at first. I was asked by the PO if I would consider making a regular donation so as to get the additional gift aid. I declined as I wasn't even earning enough to pay tax.
So I never really gave much and certainly stopping giving anything for the last 10 years I was in even for any of my literature. Only if someone donated on the doors would I put it in the contribution box.

another thread got me thinking about the process the wts uses in changing important teachings or long-standing practices.. first, the gb decides that some teaching or practice needs changing because (a) it's obviously wrong (example: 1975) or (b) it's time to tighten the grip (example: harsher rules on dfing).
once they come up with the new teaching, they have to decide what to do with the "old light" which they so dogmatically promoted as truth.. .
here are some propaganda tactics they have used effectively over the years:.
9. Change it when printing the Bound Volumes and CD Rom. WT Jan 1989 the preaching work would be completed in the 20th century
stepped down in feb 2010 official around april.
i had time to read books which never really liked to read.
however if the subject intrest me thats diffrent.
welcome lovedoctor,
Well you've got balls & a brain to give up your hard fought status.
It sounds like you have invested a lot of effort in a community of people. To say goodbye to all that investment and start from scratch is a tough thing to do and may take a lot of time to build up friends outside the WTS.
You won't find a non-religious club that will be the same as being part of a JW congregation. That is because you have built up a lifetime of shared experiences with JW's where you've practiced love-bombing, been a spiritual guide to dozens of people trying to follow a moral code, believed you were doing a life saving preaching work for the creator with Satan as the enemy targeting you, not expecting to grow old but instead living forever. There's no tennis club that can compete with that?!
Instead what you will find after time at a normal club are people who have normal lives who may or may not want a beer after a game of tennis, but won't shun you if you choose to skip a year and come back next season. They won't judge you on how many times you turn up to the club if you get an injury or want to take a vacation. It will take time to get to know people because you won't be seeing them five times a week.
You say you're a people person so I'm sure you will find friends pretty soon. Maybe try and join clubs or do some courses that you may be interested in.
I faded over many years, ensured I was financially independent and had friends outside. By the time I stopped going to meetings there was no real control my family had on me.
welcome again

have a great weekend!.
i'm going to the movies with friends tonight and then i've no big plans.
feels wonderful!
Monday morning. dropped a glass in the work kitchen - managed to clean it up without a brush and three people wondering around me unwilling to have their tea-making interrupted.
just five days to go before the weekend
