so today was my first sunday meeting that i didn't go with my wife.
as an update she has decided not to move out right now...because she doesn't have anywhere to go.
but she is giving me the silent treatment.
wondered how you managed to down 8 beers so quick - I was thinking they must be bottles of weak beer cos that guy can still type ok. I've only been back to work after having five pints and I had trouble reaching for the switch on the computer without hitting my head on the table.

most of us x-jw's at one point no doubt defended the jw's when called a cult.
althought being out since 95', when i first came here it took awhile before i could use the cult word to describe the jw religion.
finding out about the pedophile scandal was disgusting, but it was probably finding out here about the wts history and terrible personal experiences of some on this board that made me finally admit that the jw's were a cult.

How could anyone be so stupid as to light a fire on the wooden porch of a wooden house and not think this could do some serious damage. Hope they find the culprits. I sincerely hope they are looked after and have insurance to get another house.

it basically came down to the fact that she couldn't handle what i was saying about the organization, etc and all she could come back to me was that i "hated her?

denying children life saving blood transfusions because of religious beliefs is not just up there with smoking or drugs - it's way beyond. That's the kind of parent you are.

Religious belief is a profound human right for people not just for themselves but to bring up their children in that belief too.
Well unless it damages them right? You wouldn't think it right if it damaged them right? You'd want to protect children from being damaged by those religious beliefs wouldn't you? Nah didn't think so...as you clearly state it's a profound human right to do anything you like if it's religious - no matter what. That's where we'll agree to differ then - I won't teach another generation to hate other religions (even JW's) or teach them it's ok to shun people.
I hope my blood transfusions save your childs life one day or yours too - shame you won't do the same for mine. I hope you pray to God and ask his forgiveness for your religious teaching on that.

children are bought up under their parents decisions. That is simply a fact of life
that doesn't make it right. When a parent brings up their child to smoke that doesn't make it right. When a parent brings up their child to take drugs that doesn't make it right. When a parent brings up their child so they can be no part of normal school activities like birthdays or xmas or being friends with other kids that doesn't make it right.
Tell us again which congregation you went to that was so good as a child. Would you care to counteract what Meangirl has gone through - perhaps share your experience of childhood in this amazing congregation? And if this congregation was so good - why aren't you there now - encouraging your brothers and sisters instead of mixing with us?

MeanGirl, great response from your mum. No huge apology but a lot said for a JW. You're spot on with what you said about debator.
What we can do is have lots of parties/gatherings especially with children and people from the congregation building up relationships and having loads of fun doing it. Presents given at any time out of love and encouragement can also be used productively rather than at sets times from the previous culture. Have alternate social activities replacing any lost ones.
Now what congregation did you go to where you had lot's of parties, loads of fun? Was that the same congregation where you stroked the tigers and petted the pandas? You never went to a KH when you were young and if you did you're talking total bs right now.
It isn't easy but thats because Witnesses are one of the few Christian religions were believing in God is a life choice (In the pattern of early Christians) rather than a hobby that barely intrudes in the rest of your life
I think if you read the lines that MeanGirl wrote instead of inbetween them, like most young JW's, MeanGirl didn't make that life choice - it was forced upon her.

Bunch of guys with cars - I'm picturing Mad Max now - bet that was fun. Would be interesting to hear more of your experiences of what it was like for young people in Oz. I think there is a very different vibe in each country. The UK was wholesome and boring and not much happened with acceptable socialising. There was a social party scene, much frowned upon. Ireland was really quiet - one gathering every six months - yawn - certainly not enough to keep the young interested.

I've never send flowers if I've made a mistake - only wanted them to be associated with a positive feeling.
I once turned up to collect someone for FS with an armfull of huge red roses wrapped in cloth - about 80 of them. I had to drive to New Covent Garden market in London at 5am to get them. They looked and smelled great but the surprise element was good. Shame we had to go on FS although the afternoon was fab
