  Maybe we should name a holiday "Armageddon Day."

  Every year the GB would predict on what day this holiday would fall, only to get it wrong, afterwards deny any knowledge of the announcement and then blame the R&F for misapplying scripture.

  Thanks. What criticisms can the average American dub expect to hear from the platform in the coming weeks? "Worldly holidays are a snare of satan, it's all commercial, people don't really care for one another on such a holiday, they don't even know the name of the God they are thanking"?

  today is kim clijsters' birthday and a month ago she announced her retirement from tennis.

  i remember the week she was born very well.

  i have watched tennis since the late '70s, and i remember when billie jean king was a star, when jimmy connors was a hot new thing, and when "virginia slims" matches were shown on wtbs.

  for all of us who dread the knock on saturday morning only to find the po and the so at your door with stupid grins, here to find out why you havnt been to the meeting for a year.. ask em in, when they get over all the fake niceties and get down to the business of trying to readjust you or kick you out, try this.. just tell them you where stumbled out of the truth.

  stumbled by some responsible bros that you would never have dreamed would put you in this position.. stumbled out by the lying gb.. there is no come back.

  thats atleast 10 years..i am dealing with the lil ones and knock knock...i open the door to find a witness at the door all pretty and smiles... told her to hold on one second and made the dog quite down..she started her spill and i was like ..don't mean to be rude but born and raised a jw.

  ..so first words are ?

  ?...wait all at once...are you dfed ?...nope i just choose not to go..asked my name a couple times and encouraged me to come to meetings.

  this is my story.

  we were introduced to the religion in 1982, not soon after we were unbaptized publishers (a bit to soon for me even at that age) i really didnt miss the celebrations as much as were werent that well off and my parents worked 6 days a week to pay the bills.

  I've re-read this again because it keeps opening up new debates in my mind. What happened was wrong on so many levels. Even as adults being falsely accused of such a crime could and probably would ruin your life, as I've heard in recent news stories.

  Interesting point about how information does leak about JC's. Gossip is a powerful weapon of control in the truth.

  Hi KP138,

  I recall the mental preparation for torture that we had to do. We were told to learn scriptures so we could recite them if we were in prison for a long time without access to the bible. We were told we might be tortured to give up the addresses of elders or other JW's. These were panic inducing fear tactics.

  The more I have read on this site the more I understand why I believed what I did, why I reacted to certain things the way I did and why I felt certain things such as guilt. Simple techniques were used by the WTS in it's publications, at meetings and which were reinforced by our parents. It is a cult that demands lifelong obedience and prevents your exit.

  Now I understand so many of the teachings are not true, are a sham and prophecies will not happen, the fear from the WTS diminishes. Fear of their message of doom, fear of words like apostate. It takes time though.

  I am very sorry you have lost your father. That he fell foul of this ridiculous belief system and that you have been so affected by your upbringing.

  College is a really positive move. You have the benefit of recognising what mistakes your parents made and are already taking a different course.

  Some JW's believe they will not die and that they will live forever.

  No single human has ever managed to do that so far out of billions and billions in history.

  Not all JW's believe this but are too scared to admit it.

  Rhodes scholarships are for overseas students to study at Oxford. Fred was American and resident in America. I don't believe he would have been eligible for a Rhodes scholarship from anywhere other than America.
