Matrix moment - what was it and when did you share it?

for those of you who had a moment like that from the matrix when you realised what you'd believed was fundamentally flawed or a lie - what caused that defining moment and how long was it before you could share your thoughts?.

Controlling organisation that is always right, lack of disaster response, unbelievable flood explanations, desperate generation teachings, UN, birthdays, dodgy revelation interpretations - frankly it could have been any of these things for me.

Bible story book pictures were inappropriate for children and the stories no better. I recall taking the bible story book into school at the tender age of 6 and having several children gather round while I talked through some of the stories - the page of most interest was Jesus on the stake with nails through his hands. It may be a familiar image in Christian society but still wrong for small children.

I didn't believe most of what the JW's taught for a long time, disliked being a JW, disliked being controlled by damaged people but couldn't get out (wasn't financially independent). I was fading over a long time whilst getting educated. I didn't realise how bad / harmful it was until the BBC Panorama programme on pedophilia - having an outside party verbalising how bad the JW policies were was shocking. I shared this with someone I trusted and knew I was going to exit even if I lost my family.

It was difficult to absorb because all the JW's I'd known for years (some very nice) still seemed like the reality and the shocking TV revelations like the dream. There was simply no defence to the facts of bad WBTS policies that allowed abuse to exist.

Even after I successfully left it was a long time before I really knew the whole truth about the WBTS - JWN being the first JW site I looked at - confirmed so much of my thinking and experience and a whole lot more.

Gossip, gossip, gossip

even though i've been disfellowshipped for several months now (looking forward to my 1 year anniversary).

i did have a brother contact me about one of my siblings who is still "in" and ask me personal questions about them.

he also shared with me a lot of personal info about my sibling that i did not know, obviously my relative shared this information with this brother in confident.. i felt like if my relative wanted me to know they would have told me.

Does he know you're disfellowshipped, if so why does he think it's ok to talk to you? He seems to be full of negative stuff about people - is he negative about any doctrines or being a JW (i.e. field service)? Is he saying these things because he thinks you have a negative view of JW's so feels comfortable sharing this stuff and maybe having doubts or trying to fade?

Gossip is shocking in some KH's - I've not seen anything so bad and worked in lots of environments.

In love with a JW...

apologies if this has been discussed before, or is in the wrong forum, but i could really do with some advice.

two years ago i met the love of my life; someone i regard as my soulmate.

he is an active jw and i am a practising church of england person.

Hi CuriousUK,

Take all the time you need and do take what you've read with a pinch of salt too as we're giving advice and making judgements on the limited words you've written so know very little about you, your friend, the chemistry you have.

The one thing you're getting though is a range of fairly consistent (and blunt) advice on one thing that most here are experts on and that is the teachings and dynamics of the JW organisation and how these scenarios play out. Also experts on what JW's say and what they really mean so by all means ask any questions you want and you'll get a range of experienced answers whenever you need.

The views may also come across as quite serious and far reaching (kids etc) when this should be about enjoying a new relationship and maybe trying something new.

I've known some great JW's, I've had some great times as a JW but then I've had great times in hospital whilst undergoing operations - but it's not somewhere one would choose to be. I've known many more great people who aren't JW's and had much better times out - and I get to choose what i think :-)

very upsetting to see JW's in the autumn of their life kind of giving up the fight on account of a lifetime of false promises.

I haven't read the article. Having the news channel on all time with it's messages of doom and suffering is something one of my parents does too. It is endless bad news though so can't be good for one's outlook on life.

1914+100 Years

i have been reading things for a while.

in approximately 20 months it will be the year 2014. that year will be 1914+100 years.

i don't know how the wts is going to get around that if the "present system" is still in existence.

Good observations and I agree that it is a year that won't go unoticed. The pre-96 teaching of the generation was a simple literal translation that deep down makes sense to a lot of JW's no matter how much they push the overlapping theory - which lets be honest - is grasping at straws.

Facebook and employment interviews

listening to this in the news got me infuriated!.

there is a growing trend that employment interviewers are asking for facebook profile with login password.. they are looking into everything you post.. there is no law in the books to prevent this!.

even though i'm self employed, i think this goes beyond what's required of hirees!.

I have also been told that my FB account was being monitored during a sensitive time. Again this was for a specific reason to avoid PR issues. It felt intrusive but at least I knew why and got a heads up about it.
