My decision about "family shunning"

since i've been off work this week because of spring break, i've really been missing my grandma.

when i have left wt (i'm fading and april will be 6 months) and i told her about january, she has been shunning me.

i told myself "i will respect her wishes/decision..etc" this morning i woke up and said "to hell with shunning!

Gojira - hacking into someone else's e-mail account is a felony, and I would absolutely report her and be insistent that it's investigated if she does it to you. I'm sure your grandmother wouldn't press charges, but you can. Many e-mail programs can tell you when the last time you signed in was (like for gmail, it's in the bottom right), so you can montior that if you think she might hack you. Also some programs let you ask for an alert if you are signed in from a computer other than the one you generally use (Facebook also has this option).

People have actually been convicted of felonies for this. If it happens, contact local police as well as the FBI, since it's a federal crime. Here is one example of an indictment of someone for accessing a co-worker's email account.

I don't think this forum is limited to those who are having serious difficulties. If things are going well with his family and he wants information that he thinks can help him keep it that way, I don't see the problem.

I have a relative on my wife's side of the family who was baptized, pioneering, etc, then decided he didn't want to be a JW anymore, and moved away and moved in with a wordly girlfriend. The parents went out of their way to not tell the elders about his situation and where he was currently living, phone number, and so on because they didn't want him DF'd. After the smoke cleared in a few years they started associating with him again. He has never been Df'd and has been openly doing lots of things you could be DF'd for and it has been 20+ years. He has attended JW weddings and is basically treated like an unbelieving family member, so it does happen.

OP moved away and is basically inactive. Do you really think every JW is going to be anxious to go out of their way to get their kids shunned?

Yes, but the woman who is quoted at the very beginning is apostate. By reading the article which includes her quotes, one would be letting apostates into his home. It would be no different than having a meal. It's just like the Dateline program - quite simple.

Sorry to hear about your loss of your grandmother. There is no basis for the evil spinster aunt (I don't know, but that is how I am imagining her) to instigate a restraining order because you write your grandmother a letter every month. Whether she will intercept and trash the letters is another story, though. Best of luck with Grandmom!

Mahony is a scumbag. His solution for repeated molester priests was to send them to therapy... with instructions not to tell the therapist about the abuse issues. But there is no chance he will be prosecuted for abuse-related crimes. The statute of limitations has long since run out.

I bet they can massage those numbers anyway they want. Evangelizing? Teaching? You could probably put almost any expense in those categories. I mean, the whole purpose of the borg is supposed to be teaching and evangelizing, right? And what exactly is the difference between the two?

Also, lumping Donations in with Overseas Aid probably creates an impression that they are more involved with charitable work than they actually are. I am guessing that if they send some of their surpluses to Brooklyn or another branch, it's considered "Donations" and goes in that category. (They are "donating" from WTBTS of Australia to a different charitable organization, WTBTS of Pennsylvania or whatever). I wouldn't be surprised if they funnel extra cash from countries like Australia to the US, where less transparency is required and they can then invest it without having to disclose the returns on the investments or where it is ultimately spent.

Requiring actual humanitarian or cultural work to be done by a charity to obtain tax advantages would be tremendous progress. I hope that Australia (and eventually other countries) move in that direction.

That way you make the group prove that are involved in a sufficient amount of positive qualifying work with the money they raise rather than having their self-interested organization subsidized by taxpayers and you don't have to get into the doctrines.
