Who are the men that REALLY Run the WT?

with all of the manipulating of people's lives and subliminaly coercing witnesses to give their wills and other belongings to the wt upon their death or sooner.

also with all of the manipulating of younger one's in terms of coercing them into not doing anything with they're lives except "spiritual pursuits" for the sole purpose of furthering their own corporate interests, is there possibly some men behind the scenes who really call the shots and using the gb just as puppets in a huge money making scam knowing full well the the whole jw thing is a complete pile of crap?

in other words, are these "bosses" conscientiously manipulating the r & f on purpose knowing full well what they are doing to their member's in so many ways?

Prodigal: Thanks for sharing. But all it seems like that other thread shows is that 10 years ago, REGI, which owned Rand Cam's techology, was a small company worth about $1 Million. It seems that currently, REGI, U.S. is a nonprofitable, publicly traded company that owns a couple of patents to engines and compressors. If you follow it up the chain, you get to the main company, REG Technologies, a Canadian company, that is currently worth about $4.5 Million. (Links at bottom)

Do you have a source for this? All indications that I can find indicate that this company is small and rather insignificant.

It seems like the school agrees that the kid doesn't have to sing the songs, but the Dad wants them to be removed from the curriculum? Also appears that the Dad isn't even a JW, only his wife.

Here you go - looks like his wife passed away about a year ago and the obit mentioned that she is a Jehovah's Witness... unless there's another Jeffrey Buzzard in Fort Wayne. It looks like they had two children. Correction, seems she had two children and he was the Stepfather.... hope he didn't abuse those kids.

Jam: Yes, I think most JWs that wanted to get out of jury duty said they had a personal religious objection. The medical reasons and old age that you mentioned are probably the only things that will excuse a person from showing up entirely, but that doesn't mean that people can't be excused for some other reason once they show up. I suspect that most judges would let you be excused if there is a religious objection. They might question some prospective jurors a bit further if they aren't convinced that it's sincere.

I believe there was an article in one of the publications about 10 years ago that basically said it's a conscience matter, but not to tell the judge that JWs are not allowed to serve on juries, since it's a personal decision.

As to education, there is no educational requirement to be on a jury in the U.S. Complex cases are often decided by jurors with a limited education. Just the way our system is.

Different states have different ways of determining who gets summoned. Voting records used to be more common, but recently many states have been pulling in data from drivers licenses and other government databases to determine who goes in the jury pool. I got called once when I was a JW, even though not registered to vote at the time. I was going to serve if they picked me. I didn't give a crap if it was discouraged. But I didn't get picked - they asked me some questions and I was eventually dismissed.

College Basketball Question - Why is a 15th Seeded Team Reaching the "Sweet 16" so unusual ???

first, i have very little interest in college basketball (or other college sports for that matter).. but why do i keep hearing on all news channels that it's the first time a 15th seeded team (florida gulf coast university) has made it to the "sweet 16.".

if you're seeded 15th, what's so unusual about making it to the final 16?

if you are seeded 50th or 60th then yes, it would be unusual.

Plus, another reason why it's unusual for 15/16 seeds to advance to the sweet 16 (as opposed to 13/14 seeds) is that generally they are not even in the 64 best teams in the country, despite being in the 64 team tournament. Teams get automatic bids for winning their conference, and usually there are 8-10 teams that win a weak college conference and are forced to be included in the tourament, even though objectively they are probably not even among the top 100 teams in the country. Those teams usually end up with the 15 and 16 seeds.

Well, there are 64 teams all together in the tournament, in four regions, each seeded 1-16. So really a 15 seed is ranked between 56-60 among the entire field of 64 teams.

how valid are commitments made while being a jw.

several times on this board i have read comments from people who were considering joining a new religion.

and how a jw baptism was not "valid", so there should be no problem while getting ready to join the new church.. if a baptism is not real, what about other aspects of life,, such as a marriage ?

outside of the legal requirements that are written down and recorded, from a spiritual standpoint, is it just a bunch of nonsense ?.

I think it depends on what your world view is once you leave. Based on their set of beliefs, people have all different kind of views toward marriage and the moral obligation one has to stick with one. My wife and I left together, but I never considered the idea that my marriage was in any way less valid than anyone else's. I'm having a little bit of trouble picturing what other kind of commitments you are referring to (if any) besides marriage and baptism, but setting baptism aside, my own opinion is that they are just as valid as any other promises that people might make, JW or not. It's not like people become mentally incompetent when they become jws.
