You're my hero. And this is a prime example of why.

It's always been my philosophy that I will live my life, respect theirs, and always leave my door open, even if they close theirs.

I know this has to be hard on you, but I also know you've given it plenty of thought as well. Give it a few years, somewhere around 18-21 will be the real testing of if he sticks with it or moves on. A lot of times it takes actually being baptized and all that goes with it to fully get how messed up it is. If he has even half of the curiousity and reasoning skills of his uncle I think it will all work out ok in the end. Especially with you there providing that prodding and comforting at the same time.

today is their first wedding anniversary.

yes, a year ago we were at renfest, with butterflies hovering and a slight sprinkle of rain, watching as xena and little toe were married.

it was beautiful and i hope they are having a wonderful anniversary!.

using humour with cult members

folks i needs some input on this subject.. i have 3 family members who are shunning me due to their jw belief system and i would like to prime some non-jw relatives on the use of humour to reach out to them.. its not right imho to poke personal fun or be sarcastic or unkind about their belief system so what do we do?.

any suggestions on how humour can be used in this way?.

Just be careful.

I can joke about my mom, my weight, my ethinicity - but if anyone says anything - it's not funny. Humor from within the community is funny - when it comes from outside it can be taken as an attack. Know your audience, but unless it's one on one and you really know the person I would suggest the jokes be kept to a minimum.

Any fans of the paranormal/cryptozoology shows that are on lately?

I'm quite skeptical about such shows, as with the state of CGI, absolutely anything can be created in a computer and made to look believable and authentic.

That's just it tho - if what they are doing on these shows is fake - anyone of us could mimic the same "Ghostly Activity" with some fishing line and heavy breathing into a tape recorder.

Did anyone watch GH last night? I was impressed with the show -- but I guess I missed where that 23 seconds of phenomonal footage was...was it the flashlight? That was pretty cool, but I feel like they have caught more amazing stuff than that before...now they are touting an AMAZING EVP next week...it better be good...or else...

Yup - I admit it -- I'm a sucker for watching them.

I like Paranormal State because I like to yell at the god-boy host sometimes, and giggle. To me it boarders more on a show about the power of suggestion than anything else.

I didn't like the GH International show at all. In my opinon - poor investigations far too many easily explained phenomenon that were viewed as "compelling evidence"

I never used to like Destination Truth - but I think the host is funny and if nothing else is going on I will watch it...tho the fact they only investigate the creatures for a day or two bothers me.

Never seen Monster Quest.

You forgot to mention "Most Haunted" - Travel Channel...tho it is totally forgettable. In my mind it's the best for yelling at your TV.

I must admit the show that impresses me the most, and most frequently is still Ghost Hunters. I rarely find myself diagreeing with what they find, and they seem to be the most rational out of all the "ghost hunter" types on the air. They have had some evidence that still leaves me scratching my head. I am giddily awaiting next weeks episode to see what this 23-seconds of footage is all about.

Yeah - does anyone have info on what to expect? I'd be cautious of who I gave the info to - it has the potential to be more hurtful than helpful...is there any kind of agenda or topic more narrow than the broad one given?
