supposing you wanted to start your own community project, what would you do
by Celtic injust supposing you wanted to start your own community project or to do something, anything for other people, and supposing you had a few hours spare each week and some funding to get a project off the ground, what would you ideally like to do?
would it be that you might like to start an ex witness healing group or similar, or perhaps some theatre production, screen writing etc, or perhaps a recycling project or perhaps helping out elderly individuals in your home area?.
if you could use your imagination, what would you like to do?

September 30, 1957....just kidding...
I like it better than, "You're Welcome" which in a way sounds condesending...like..."Lucky for you I cam along to help you with something."
I prefer, "no problem" which means, to me, "no need for thanks, I'd do it for anyone".

My ex-JW girlfriend is getting married.
by Atilla inyep, i just found out not too long ago although not directly.
my parents were actually invited but i guess my invitation got lost in the mail.
the funny thing is that she is going to marry a guy from grenada in grenada.

I dunno, sending congrats at this point just seems like picking at old wounds. I'd just hold my peace and say nothing. Take the not getting an invitation as a sign that she has moved on.

A Tribute to a Dear Friend: C.K. Dexter Haven Scott (1991-2004)
by cruzanheart inthis past monday, april 19, we had dexter put to sleep.
he was almost 13 years old and we got him when he was 11 weeks old, a tiny bouncy puppy with ears that he tripped over for months.
he was ever cheerful, a part of the family, loved the children and let them pull on his tail and ears and pull up on his back with no grumbles, and a very dear friend.

Stories like these are so hard to hear.
Reminds me of what I went through with my cat. Had since a kitten, and finally had to take her when she was just not going to get well...it's very peaceful, but so hard at the same time. And knowing it's the right thing doesn't make it hurt any less.
Dexter was a beautiful dog, and I am sure you'll all have memories of him for years to come. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Pat Tillman, former NFL All-Pro, KIA in Afghanistan
by Badger init wil be better covered by other sites (cnn and the like) but i just found out that pat tillman, who left a $9 million offer from the st. louis rams after playing for the arizona cardinals, where he was easily their best defensive player, was killed while fighting in afghanistan.
he was 27.. he left the nfl in his prime to enlist in the army and attempt to join the rangers, which he succeed in doing.
his brother kevin, who was a baseball propect for the cleveland indians, also join the unit.

I sort of have a problem with this getting SO MUCH media attention. It kind of downplays the "normal" guys and gals who serve in the army.

Spooky true story
by Leolaia ini heard a very bizarre fieldwork story today in an anthropology talk.
a female graduate student in the late '90s gave one of her professors a tape she recorded of her encounter with one of the "swamp people" in mississippi.
he put the tape aside and never listened to it until after she graduated but when he did, he was utterly amazed.

Interesting...anyone a fan of Zora Neale Hurston?
It's not totally related to this, but sort of, her book Tell My Horse: Voodoo and Life in Haiti and Jamacia, is a totally engrossing read. I just picked it up because I am a fan of her other work and was at the library and spotted it on the shelf. If anyone is even remotely interested in learning more, I'd highly suggest it. She was actually invited in to the culture and shown all sorts of "secret" things. It's also an interesting read to see how different cultural things when in close proximity mutate and feed off each other.

by LittleToe inafter much deliberation, i decided to go "out" at the end of a public talk.
it didn't go down too well, but at least i was able to give some of my reasons for leaving.. i've put some of the details on my homepage.
i'll update it more when i get the time and the strength.

Wow...and all this time I just thought you were a hot man in a kilt!
Honestly, I had never heard your story, seen your website, or anything. I read your talk today. I have to say I was greatly impressed. I know I would never have had the courage to do something like that, nor the power to do it so eloquently.
I have always respected and looked forward to your opinion on many of the threads here, but my understanding of where you have been posting from as a person has been altered.
I count myself lucky to have gotten to know you better through the board. Thank you for your courage and your honesty in sharing your story. I am sorry things haven't worked out for you on the marriage side of things. But I am sure you will move on to do great things with your life.
Oh and you're still a hot man in a kilt in my eyes...
