Cheers! The sun is out and it's nice outside, about time to go out and throw the baseball with my 5 yr old. BTW I worked last night but not every night. I had a commercial job to do, so last "night" was my "day" so I should go to sleep but I'm "all jacked up on Mountain Dew" and coffee!

Does John 3:16- disprove core JW beliefs
by elderelite ini have been amazed time again at what i find simply reading the bible, free of jw footnotes.
recently i read the first five or six chapters of john's gospel and found some things that stood out.
of course i'm sure i'm not the first, second or one hundreth to note this, but its all part of the process .

Cantleave - The same thing happened for me. It was preparing for the 2009 Memorial talk that awakened me too!!
I couldn't find any place where the bible spoke of "respectful observers".....I couldn't wrap my head around it!

I could barely rationalize that I wasted 30+ years. I can only imagine how hard it would be if you had raised kids and had grandkids in it.

Is it normal to quote without naming the source like WT does?
by InterestedOne ini am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?

That is something that never seemed right to me, too.

"Apostates main topic is always Disfellowshipping! And I agree with the arrangement 100%"
by sabastious inthere are a lot of witnesses that have examined the df'ing arrangement and deem it worthy to be the main force of discipline for god's earthly organization.
the prodfers as i just named them, are advovates of the policy and believe that it churns out, once the offender returns through the system in place, very "spiritual" people.. think about this process and figure out what the desired result the originator of the policy was:.
the subject is acused of a "high end sin" (requires the quantification of sin).if subject has been viewed by two or more witnesses a private hearing is formed with a panel of three elders.the subject is interogated by the panel of elders and information is gathered using policies from a secret elder handbook.

Get 'deleted' or resign as a ministerial servant?
by trevorbv ini'm a ministerial servant for some years now, but reached to the conclusion that i must get out of jws as soon as possible.
i can no longer waste my time in field service, at the kh or doing menial jobs for the congregation.
for some months now my field report is with one digit at the hours section and with empty spaces in magazines, brochures and the others.

I resigned! Then six months later was our last meeting. It's been a year since then. IMHO fading sux! Just FYI from my perspective. But sometimes that time is what you need to figure out that without the "org" you'll be just fine. But, be prepared for the gossip and them calling you out, then turning it around on you and saying it's all YOUR fault. Because.."really, who left who?" That's what the elders told us. Isn't that just a load of BS!
Just sayin...

Who or What Helped YOU Get Out Of The Watchtower Mindset?
by minimus inwas there a person, a book, a situation that helped you see that the "truth" was not what it was supposed to be?

My wife and I looked into questions we have always had and ultimately decided to leave...for our kids. It's funny and sad but our parents tell us to "come back...for the kids! You're not giving them a chance!" REALLY?! Nope, our boys saved US.
It's a story I've read here before. This month is the 1yr anniversary for us leaving (unless you count the memorial). What has helped me to get out of the WT mindset? Staying away. That is when I saw things in a whole new way. Once we left "auto-pilot" and our brains started working we couldn't shut them off!

Documented transition from being an elder to becoming a free man
by TastingFreedom init has been a year since i stopped attending meetings with the jehovah's witnesses.
as one year anniversary has passed, i thought it would be helpful to highlight some of the main events during this transition.
it may help others that are going through the same experience.

Thank you TastingFreedom!
I haven't posted my story on this forum but it is very similar to yours. I was raised a JW, stopped being an elder in 2009 (on my terms)....my wife and I stopped going meetings in January 2010. We took our kids from the last meeting we attended and knew it was our last!
We have been fighting the very things you went through. It's been a struggle but it seems to be a bit better every day. Also, we've noticed the shunning and we aren't df'd....yet. We just quit, cold turkey. It's nice to read that my family is not alone! Thank you!!!
