I've heard it...and I had even used it. Isn't it funny (not really) how when you are "in" you just accept everything said as if it is law. Because if one person said it from the stage that makes it beyond refute! Sad....

A frog in boiling water?
by hoser ini don't know where i've heard it before(perhaps from a circuit overseer talk) but someone associated with jehovahs witnesses made the analogy.
that if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump out immediately, but if you put the same frog in a pot of cold water and slowly heat it up.
the frog will not notice the gradual temperature change and will cook to death.. the overseer or elder used this illustration as a warning to say that gradual changes in morals around us- we will not notice and get cooked alive.

What Doctrines or JW Views Did You Not Find Too Believable?
by minimus inthe thought that a loving creator would violently destroy anyone not belonging to the jehovah's witness religion including billions of babies seemed just not right.. the fact that you could recieve some "acceptable" blood components but could not donate those same lifesaving yourself seemed strange.
you could recieve a blood fraction but you couldn't give it.. any others you can think of?

The preaching work was a "life saving work" that was soooo important. However when asked if ones who rejected the message would die at Armegeddon...well...uhhh...only God is the Judge. So then... Jesus is God...because the bible says he would be judging...uhh no says the witnesses.
Only 144,000 people are going to heaven. This was always troublesome to me. So, from 33 C.E. to 1935 only that many people were selected to be in heaven? Then all of the sudden, the door was opened to people living forever on earth? Which in effect was retroactive to all the people before Jesus died?
Jehovah's witnesses are the happiest people on earth...and the happiest Jehovah's witnesses are pioneers! (cringe)

It's kind of a telling sign that this is even an issue...how can it be fixed?
1. Use songs people like!
2. Why not be like churches people enjoy and use technology...guitars, drums, singers, projectors and slides and current music! The churches I've been to...don't have a problem singing. That's actually the part everyone looks forward too. I'd venture to say no one even leaves their seats during the service? If they do...you don't even notice. Especially during the songs! Just my experience.
thanks blondie for the summary, I really enjoy these.
The part where they were explaining the need for revisions of the song book was nonsense! I mean, really..."new order" to "new world" and "vindication" to "sanctification"...I just don't see why they feel the need to "strain the gnat" like that!!! Crazy!

Things I'm grateful for....
by Lunatic Faith ini only recently decided to change course in my life but am surprised at the daily reminders of what i have to be grateful for.
by this, i mean, things i have spent my life worrying about, or torturing myself with, that is no longer a concern:.
no more door-to-door humiliationno more guilt about not doing enoughi can get rid of most of the dresses in my wardrobe since i didn't like them anywayno more nylons rolling down my abdomen and causing my thighs to itchno more required reading and preparationno more talksno more conventions and all the headaches connected to themsummer is wide openweekly planning is no longer contingent upon meeting nightno more miserable weekends of morning service and morning meetingwhat are you grateful for?.

Sooner7nc & Satinka: Thanks for sharing. Glad you like 'em.
I had never thought about the sun fading a tattoo and then having to go in an get it brightened up after it fades...but that does make sense.
As far as older people and their tattoos not looking so good, well that may be true...but they have a story to tell about it. I agree with no names of girlfriends and boyfriends. I'd even throw in names of spouses. (Mind you...I LOVE my wife!! It's just not my "thing". Haha) She'll give me hell if she reads that. Something that represents family though would be timeless.

Hot, Cold or Both about religion?

my wife and i had decided to check out other churches...i guess we had been feeling a need to do so.

Let me start by saying my wife and I are out, just not officially. We have not been going to the meetings for over a year. My wife and I had decided to check out other churches...I guess we had been feeling a need to do so. We went to one for maybe 3 times, then another, then yet another. Sometimes I really want to go....now I'm in a "no thanks" phase. I believe in God, yet I don't think he's in any one form of worship. (if that makes any sense?)
My wife and I have both talked about the damage that being an ex-witness has caused us. The defenses go up when we hear any speak whatsoever about this is "the only right way". When we are asked if we would like to join a "small group" that meets in homes, I kind of cringe. I went to a church of a friend for about a month, then took a couple of weeks off. Then we get the "we missed you at church" phone calls. Now, I know they are just nice, really nice....but as a former witness...that's hits "scar tissue" if you know what I mean. I guess I'm writing this, wondering....
Did any of you here go through this kind of phase after leaving?

Brotherdan - Best tattoo commerical ever!
That's Hilarious! Especially when talking about the trip to Jamaica! LMAO! Tingling means it's working...hahaha
Thanks
I was thinking of one maybe the size of a baseball on the shoulder. That wa it would be in a place where it could be easily concealed. That would be rough to have it on your face. Wow! Not sure yet, but there are days where I think screw it...LET'S DO THIS!

S-3 forms kept on studies? Are they keeping a record on me?
by InterestedOne ini just read some of ex-specialpioneer's story and noticed they filed "s-3" forms on his dad with the cong secretary.
i am a worldly in the middle of doing a jw study.
could someone please enlighten me on these "s-3" forms?.

They didn't fill those out anymore as of when I left at the beginning of last year. But they were just a formality, just another tree being killed. I think the secretary would throw them away after he picked up the time. Don't worry you aren't in some secret Database....
or are you? LOL
