I have to second the motion on the Service Meeting. I hated those "local needs" parts where they were coming down heavy on something that happened. You could connect the dots and figure out what had gone on re: wrongdoing. I remember feeling guilty about stuff that I hadn't even done as they came down so hard in trying to make people crack. It made me ill to my stomach.

WHICH MEETING WAS THE MOST BORING?
by minimus inthe more meetings you go to the more drivel you hear.
elder's meetings were terrible because all you ever did was gossip about how everyone wasn't doing this or that.
meetings for field service sucked.....enough said on that.

Ever lie on your service reports?
by The_Bad_Seed in*laughing just thinking about it*.
did anybody out there lie on their service reports that they maintained the 'national average' when in reality you got .005 hours of service in any given month?
i magically always used to always get "10" hours out in service, while nobody ever saw me at the groups, no one ever caught on, or seemed not to -- maybe they just didn't give a shit.. i always lied so i could keep my microphone 'privelidges' -- that being, the privelidge to walk around at the back of the hall giving my deflated ass a break from those awful chairs they had.

Never lied about my time - usually I was between 8 and 12 hours a month. I now know when the elders sometimes asked me to boost my hours a little and set an example it was because a bunch of dubs like you guys were artificially raising the congregation average!
That said, I've wondered if I could concoct a plan to "go back" and get reinstated, put in lots of field service hours (on paper of course), THEN fade without falling for the trick question. Anyone actually ever tried this?

Apostasy Or Hypocrisy? WT Loads the Language!
by Englishman inapostasy: noun.renunciation of one's religious faith or ones principles or party etc.. hypocrisy:noun.simulation of virtue or goodness, insincerity.. the above is taken from the oxford dictionary.
clearly, apostasy is an act of openly giving up a belief, whilst hypocrisy is an act of pretending to be good and sincere.
quite a difference!.

Wow! This really skews the meaning of those scriptures. If you read them with hypocrite in mind, it makes you think of the fakes who are within the organization not the so-called apostates who would be out of the organization. By using the word apostate incorrectly in all of these instances, it deflects attention away from corruption within the organization, instead of to those who appear to be practicers of good, but are instead hypocrites.

JW article in major Canadian newspaper today...
by Pathofthorns ini almost didn't have time to read the morning's paper, but a banner at the top of the front page entitled "cheerleading for jehovah" got my attention.
interesting comments in the toronto star can be read here.
the article has obvious input from the society and seems to be a pr type move in light of recent bad canadian press (calgary blood case) and likely future canadian programs exposing jws and child abuse.. interesting comments:.

What a skewed article... Tell me that a young pioneer sister would not normally be chastised for going out with a "worldly woman" esp. to a worldly concert!

"It seems reasonable" therefore it is so?
Reasonable based on what?!??!
Here's a statement from me: "It seems reasonable that JWs are working for a very rich corporation under the guise of religion".

WHAT'S THE WORSE THING YOU DID AT THE MEETING?
by Mary ini would have to say the worst (aka: funniest) thing i ever did at a meeting was when i sat with the circuit overseer and his wife (many moons ago......) .
anyway, he was really prim and proper and she was of course, a very submissive wife who barely spoke without her husbands permission.
anyway, he goes to the platform and starts off by asking th audience: who was ahab?

A couple come to mind:
1) A young guy about 24, pioneer, pretty earnest and well respected, but a little short upstairs at times was giving a talk from the "Creation" book or something. He was marvelling about a creature he kept referring to as an "oran"-"goootin" and what an amazing animal. I laughed my ass off and when he came to the back (was working the sound) I informed him it was pronounced "orangutan" and he clued in to what the heck the animal actually was! We rode on him pretty hard for that one.
2) An MS had asked me to do a demonstration one night. We got to the meeting late, he kind looked at me and smiled and wagged his finger at me jokingly. I had totally forgotten about the part, until the service meeting began. Then I suddenly realized what he had been referring to when I read over the part. I decided to jet out to the can... I could hear him giving his talk and he called upon me to give the demo. He waited a minute and some of the brothers started looking for me. One young guy opened the bathroom door, saw my feet under the stall and burst out laughing "he's in here!". He kept busting a gut as I was dying off embarassment. The guy giving the talk was not very quick on his feet and he said we'll just wait for him for a minute! The guy who found me said, "uh I think he's not coming any time soon". When I returned to my seat after his part was over, people were smiling and laughing big time.

With the comments added in there with the psycologist, they make it seem like it's an absolutely last resort. There is no mention about those that have been DFed that want to remove themselves from the org but still have contact with individuals or family.
Very sad little world.

YouKnow,
That is by far the most intelligent and insightful thing you have written. I applaud you for having a mind of your own. While we may not always agree on doctrine, I appreciate your very human thoughts that these things will not go unpunished.

Good God!
Can you imagine the scene after Armageddon? If it falls on Friday, you can be damn sure the meetings will be on for Sunday. No matter! I am sure all of the same talk outlines about organizational rules and principles will apply.
The elders will assemble and begin receiving instruction from the Governing Body. The same organizational methods that were in place for the preaching will now be used for the cleanup work. Everyone will either meet at the bookstudy group or at the Hall for cleanup service just in the same manner they would for field service, or better still pre-assembly cleanup. This will consist of the pioneers getting the glamourous cleanup jobs like restoring trees and flowers, the elders moving from group to group "supervising" the efforts, and the general peons left to haul rubble and poke at the dead bodies with sticks.
A great identification work will likely go on. Find a body? Pick through the pockets and get the ID. Bring it to be added to the master list. Find any jewellery and bring it to the proper authorities to be smelted for building those big new assembly halls we need for all the resurrected. Don't dare keep any - but I'm sure there'll be a few incidents like those that stole the carpets from one of Israel's war spoils.
After a few weeks, the elders will need to focus more of their efforts on stirring up those who have started to lapse in the cleaning work.
"Brother Selfish! Why are you working on building your house? There's forever for that! Put it off and help in the cleanup and continuing building work! You should be thankful just to be here."
Sisters - please keep in mind while you are cleaning up that you would want to exercise modesty when dressing. Skirt hems should adhere to the local conscience. Besides, trying to look nice when hauling around all those dead carcasses is pretty pointless.
Remember all of those pictures of paradise with the bounteous meals and playing with the animals? Well hold your horses brothers! We've received "new light"! These thngs actually happen at the end of the 1000 years... Seven years to clean the earth? Well we can't take that literally it seems. We've now seen prophecies in the Bible that point to a time in the future when the cleaning will end and the earth will be restored: details to follow! For now, show what kind of Christian you are and get moving in the cleaning work.
Don't forget to submit your service reports every month! See how easily the old forms translate to the new ones? You've still got the Hours cleaned (infirm brothers and sisters not yet fully healed may report in 15 minute increments). Instead of magazines, please mark "Jewellery found", for Studies conducted mark "Apostates Identified" and for Return Visits mark "Bodies Hauled for incineration". Please note that you may count Apostates identified, but not the time for hauling off their bodies (this means you YouKnow).
Enjoy Paradise!
Forever!
