  Elder Pleads For Money For Local Needs Talk!

  my mother was telling me how the elder went up on the platform and said how we can't pass donation plates around, we can't sell cookies or do bake drives, we pretty much can't beg for money.

  then he said that at the risk of getting himself in trouble, it needed to be said that they don't know what they're going to do, but they need money and contributions.

  my mother said that there are very few donating money and the congregation is in continual debt plus all the wealthier people have stopped going....i thought of metatron and knew he'd be delighted to hear another testimonial.

  Hmmm... let me think this one through. Imagine a scenario where the WTS continues to emphasize donations directly to the worldwide work as opposed to supporting local Kingdom Halls. There's a real problem with going down that road - they need to strike a precarious balance. They need the local KHs to operate in order to have regular "sales meetings" to keep people active and in fear. If the congregations started to dry up, they would feel the pinch. I think in the long run if they could avoid having local KHs which are a drain of publishers money, they would give them up as long as it didn't affect the bottom line.

  But they know they can't. You need to keep a sales force active out in the field. Tough balancing act they are trying to pull off.

  1995 no big deal??

  when i discovered - only recently - the the masthead of the awake was changed in 1995 to eliminate "our creators promise" i found it apalling.

  it was a promise people!!

  i am curious, did the wtbts write articles or discuss this radical change or did they just slip it in?

  i was always a shy kid that desperately wanted to make my parents proud.

  at about this same time i started to hang out with some guys that my dad didn?t particularly approve of.

  i wonder how my life would have turned out had i stopped at any point between ages 14 and 19 and asked myself who exactly i was doing all this for.
