I just can't believe I was such a sucker for so long. Then I read articles like this and I don't know If I'm happy that I'm not the only idiot falling for this bunk, or sad that so many other people are as big of suckers as i am.
after, we were again allowed into the building no.
one without a lapel card was allowed in without being thoroughly.

What Jehovah's Witnesses read "between the lines" of articles like those above:

"We're still investigating. Why oh why can't everyone be like those wonderful, wonderful Jehovah's Witnesses? God bless them!"
Mr. Bishop and Mr. Watkins have both accepted bible study invitations. "After an orderly display like that, how could God not be with them?!"

Just finished reading the full article (got a little distracted). I couldn't help comparing this 'end-times' environment to the one in the mid-late 1800's that lead to the beginnings of the JW's. I tend to think the org developed into a controlling, manipulative entity over time, and quite independent of it's core beliefs. Those beliefs have clearly been around for centuries, and will be around for centuries.
But if there is a direct connection between the JW's org and their last-day interpretations, could some of these latter day end-times prophets create another witness-type org? Have they already?

A TIME/CNN poll finds that more than one-third of Americans say they are paying more attention now to how the news might relate to the end of the world, and have talked about what the Bible has to say on the subject. Fully 59% say they believe the events in Revelation are going to come true, and nearly one-quarter think the Bible predicted the Sept. 11 attack.
Look at that quote from page 2 of that article. Is it any wonder that groups with doomsday messages like the witnesses are able to keep their numbers up?
the state of california is now considering legistlation to make it easier, in fact very easy, for a victim of pedophilia to sue the church (catholic church is main target of legislation) for significant monetary damages - perhaps shifting the burden of proof somewhat to the perpetrators (priests) and their religious organizations who knew of these child molesters and shifted them around to different parishes.
the watchtower religion will also be significantly affected as the legislation is generic enough to include all religious organizations.
what else will be of concern to the watchtower religion?

How realistic is it to believe this legislation will pass? It seems to me like this would create alot of lawsuits, and not to be cynical, but don't you think this will get modified to lessen the number of lawsuits brought and thus water down the overall effect?

Ugh. I have no idea what to believe right now. Still trying to form a new world view. I think right now I'm in the "life sucks, then you die" catagory. Of course, I may just be in a bad mood today.
Maybe I could use some of Sentinels lovely philosophy. As nice as it sounds, if I said I believed it, I'd be lying. Too bad. Maybe as I gain more distance from the WTS ... who knows.

i'm sure we all believed that we were members of the only true religion.
we knew that other people believed they had the true religion, but we knew they were wrong because we had the true religion.
all other religions doctrines were mind shatteringly wrong and ours were brilliantly clear and overwhelmingly right.
