Beware of the Strawman argument!
by Farkel inyears ago before i took the time and effort to study logic and argumentation, i went to a market and bought some toothpaste.
it was a little-known brand and it touted "baking soda" as its magic ingredient.
it was also cheaper than the name-brand toothpastes and that helped me in my decision.

Debator-----This site has been named specifically at a meeting in my home congregation where I grew up as being an apostate website. As a matter of fact, the elder stated that ANYTHING that was pertaining to the religion that was not produced by the WBTS was an apostate website. No strawman here.
So, please answer me, do you not feel guilt for being here and associating with us? When I was associated with the organization, I thought that I would be possessed by demons if I entered one of these forums. Do you know why I thought that? Because that was what I was told by the Faithful and Discreet Slave. Have you not been told the same thing?
I don't think it is a strawman because you are saying that the Org is the channel of God because they are accurate in their teachings of the bible, and you defend them as if you are a faithful witness, but the very fact that you are on this site doesn't lend much creedence to that thought.

(If you ever were) Was getting DF'ed a relief? Did you lose patience with 'the fade'?
by Sapphy ini was wondering about this.. i'm doing a slow fade, i don't want to lose friends and family - but it's frustrating.
wasting time going to meetings etc when my heart and head isn't in it anymore.
it feels like a game played by everyone elses rules but mine.

I was df'd several years ago, and then reinstated. (I committed adultery because I thought it was the only way to get out of a marriage that I was miserable in.) After a few months of being disfellowshipped, I was very relieved. I got reinstated because I loved my mom and I knew how much she wanted it for me. That was a mistake on my part. I don't think I was ready to face the fact that I had spent my life banging my head against a wall to be a "good girl", and all it had done was make me miserable.
I got re-married to a "worldly" man. And of course I was publicly reproved for that. But it didn't matter anyway, even when I was reinstated, I was still treated like a leper. So, I tried the fade for a while, and let me tell you, that is exhausting! I finally just stopped going, and I haven't had any trouble from it so far. The elders have not tried to meet with me, and if they do, I will refuse. I don't care if they disfellowship me in absentia or whatever. You don't have to fade, just stop going. Thats what I did after a while, and I am so much happier now!

Wow Farkel! You have stirred up quite a discussion here! Kudos on your explanation of the strawman argument. I have never heard it explained so clearly.
Debator---I still can't understand, if you believe in the teachings of the Watchtower Society so completely, do you not know that you are endangering your relationship with Jehovah, and your eternal salvation by being on an apostate website? The very fact that you ignore the warnings of the Faithful and Discreet Slave proves to me that you really don't believe in it too much, or you would be pissing your pants with fear and guilt right now and running straight away to confess your sins to the elders and receive your "loving discipline." And if by chance you are an elder in the congregation, are you so haughty as to think that you are above Satan's machinations?

I deleted twelve JWS a few weeks ago. I have one left on there that has been one of my best friends for years, and it is uncertain whether she will stay or not!!!! She has recently been reinstated, and now she is more zealous than she ever has been. I don't care if it hurts their feeelings. They would do it to me if I was Df'ed. Only one of them has sent me another request, we were childhood friends, and I really do love her too, but it is just a risk that I can't take right now!

Ha ha ha! This thread is great. One time a sister in my hall, (very prissy) bent down to pick something up off the floor, and she couldn't quite reach it, so she was rocking herself forward, and one slipped out. She actually got mad about it! It was HILARIOUS!

Profoundly Shock, Sadening and Traumatic Account of Mary Aguilar
by Scott77 inafter reading this internet link below about the profoundly shocking, sadening and traumatic account of mary aguilar, an ex-jw woman's systematic treatment and abuse, what do you think regarding the action her jw abusive husband, the congregational elders, and finally, the wts attitude when she finally reported the accident to them?
is there any related experienes that you might have come across?.

I know of other situations like that, mine for one. My husband was beating me very badly, and all the brothers were concerned with was the fact that I had smoked a cigarette. They offered absolutely no help, and they did NOT mention leaving him as an option. It was so sick, I could swear that at least one of them gained pleasure from knowing he was beating me. I think that all of them felt that he was well within his rights to do it.

You have friends here in us, I know that we are on a computer, but depending on where you live, I am sure that there would be people that would be more than willing to get together for coffee and a chat.
I am so sorry that you feel lonely, for me, it is one of the worst feelings, so I can understand why you have been considering going back to your past, but PLEASE resist the urge!!!! If you do, you will set yourself back even further, and I predict that eventually, you would have to do this all over again in the future. Push through the fear and loneliness, and I am confident that there is a bright life waiting for you on the other side!
