Treading lightly is good advice, I feel. As, nonbelievers, or "apostates", we are already trying to swim upstream. We are viewed by JWs as crazy, demon-possessed individuals. The stronger you come on, the more likely she will react by clinging on to the Org. even tighter. I know how hard it is to hold back, when you just want to shout all you know at the top of your lungs and shake them into reality, but for your daughters' sakes try to be calm, and give her little bits at a time. It is a tough thing to swallow all at once.

Hmmm, I stayed in a hotel in Chicago right next to the House of Blues. I went there for a Kenny Wayne Sheperd (I think that's how you spell his name!) concert. For the life of me I can't remember what the hotel's name was. But the rooms were beautiful and had a very current style, and most importantly, it didn't smell like a hotel room! Just a nice fresh, clean smell. Not the typical "aroma" of bleach and shame!

Joliette I am so sorry to hear that. My smoke detector in the goes off eveytime I am cooking and drop something on the burner. But I haven't checked the bedrooms to make sure they are working. Thank you for the important reminder. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

Gay and proud for a year

it has been the best year of my life for so many reasons.
i have met my boyfriend who i adore, i have stopped lying to myself, my family and my friends, i am doing really well financially and spiritually, and of course, i am no longer a part of a deluded and oppressive religion.. it feels so good to be free!

Congratulations Timothy! The world is a much better place when people are actually happy. I think every happy person makes the world a bit better.

Indian Larry--I don't have any children, but I understand the fear of disappointing , and possibly losing your family. I have tried to gently approach the subject with my mom, and it seems like her brain cannot process what I am saying. She just gives me the same one size fits all, canned responses. Breaks your heart. Makes you wonder why you were able to free yourself, but they are not. I guess for some, it is their whole life (which is what the org. wants), and they cannot even wrap their head around being outside of it. I was lucky enough to be disfellowshipped and see life on the outside. It hurts so badly to know that your friends' and family's love is conditional.
I am glad that you have found the truth about "the truth", but I am sad for the complications and heartache that comes along with it.

Shun Run/Walk 2012
by rawe ini am planning a public awareness event for april 1, 2012, i calling "shun run/walk 2012" to draw attention to shunning policies of jehovah's witnesses.
i use to help out as a moderator on the ex-jehovah's witness recovery forum on yuku, so this is a cross post from that site.
what you'll see below is a letter i have sent to "sdb:ssy", the otherwise anonymous jw author from us branch who wrote me.

SushiLuffy--- I am agreeing with the advice given here. Research the religion from both sides so that you can make an informed decision. If you only look at it from the side of the person who is studying with you and what you hear at the meetings, you will NOT be fully informed. Good luck! And please stick around and keep reading!

I still have self-worth issues from being born-in. I am female, so I don't know if it is the same for the guys, but I imagine in most cases, it is similar. But even when I am very low, I am still so grateful that I am not "in" anymore. My personality is still somewhat the same. I still like people in general and want to be friends with just about everyone, but I don't allow myself to be stepped on as much as I used to. I don't have to be nasty, but I also don't have to go crawling back for a second, or third, or one-hundredth helping of humiliation and regret. I love people in general, but I am a little better at detecting bullsh*t when I hear it.

Three Strikes "YOUR OUT!"

Cult mindset. They are right, regardless of how ridiculous the things they do are and how many lives they destroy. People can justify the most inhuman of acts by saying "I did what Jehovah directed through his faithful and discreet slave".
