A god made of pure energy would succumb to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, and burn out in the end. That's probably what happened, and why no-one's seen god for a while, lol.

Books that changed your life-
by new hope and happiness ini am not much of a reader as i have two many distractions, but i fancy a challenging read, so please list any book that has changed your entire world view on everything.
i remember as a teenager buying at a yard sale, norman vincent peales " the power of positive thinking" and at the time that had a big impact on me.
but i am a little bit more in to " realistic positive thinking" now..

Maybe 3 books influenced me:
Living In Sin? by John Shelby Spong
The Big Book (A.A.)
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
The Misery of Christianity by Joachim Kahl
LOL, a strange mix, but it marks my path to atheism, I guess.

The Egyptians worshipped a god that was pure energy- the sun god Aten- this is a hymn written about him by Pharaoh Akhenaten:
You shine out in beauty on the horizon of heaven,
O living disc, the beginning of life.
When you have appeared on the eastern horizon,
you have filled every land with your perfection.
When you set on the western horizon,
the earth lies in darkness as in death.
The earth lies in silence,
for the one who created it has gone to rest on his horizon.
Then the earth becomes bright: you have arisen on the horizon.
As solar disc, you shine by day.
Men awaken and stand on their feet.
Their arms are bent in worship, because you appear. The whole land goes to work.
All beasts are satisfied with their pasture, the trees and plants become green.
The birds flutter in their nests,
raising their wings in worship before your spirit. The ships sail upstream and down.
The fish in the river dart before your face. You make the seed grow in women,
make fluid into mankind.
How manifold are your works!
They are hidden from the face of man,
0 sole God, apart from whom there is no other. You have made people for yourself,
the Lord of all of them,
wearying himself with them,
the Lord of the whole land, rising for them. You are in my heart...It is believed to be the inspiration for Psalms 104...
...so its true- there is nothing new under the sun... lol

Religion vs the gospel
by Fernando inour family's journey out of the watchtower has led us to see the gospel as the antithesis or exact opposite of religion.. for us religion is men telling us what to believe and do (to control us).. for us the gospel is god telling us what he has done (to liberate us from such men).. how have you come to see the relationship between religion and the gospel?.

Well, its obvious if you know anything about the way the NT was created, and the progression from the simple gospel of Mark to the ultimate complex gospel of John, and the fact that Christianity is hero worship of the man Jesus, and that the meaning of Jesus' death was created by Paul- after the event. Jesus had a mesage for those 1st century believers- what they should do at that moment- that had nothing to do with waiting until he was dead.

If the Christians hadn't dishonestly hijacked the Hebrew Scriptures from the Jews to give some credibility to their newly-formed Christ cult these problems wouldn't have occurred. But they did, and so the Bible is full of contradictions like these- it is fatally flawed.

From what I have been led to believe, most people are thinking of their mothers just before they pass away. God is really an alien concept to humans- who, after all, are a form of mammal.

LOL, what Jesus taught while he was alive- what actually attracted people to him- has nothing to do with the religion that was created after his death. Obviously, Jesus didn't say 'follow me because after I'm dead it will all make sense', but he had his own teaching- which has been obscured by the writers of the Gospels after Jesus died. So you can't follow Jesus- you're 2,000 years too late.

A Thread for Cyclists - Where Do you Ride?
by cofty ini took up cycing a couple of months ago just to get fitter and lose a bit of excess weight.. i bought a second-hand hybrid bike (weighs only slightly less than a truck) and fitted road tyres.
four or five times a week i will go for a ride after work for an hour or so.
i am fortunate enough to live in rural north england surrounded by limitless quiet roads.

What I've found is that the roadracing handlebars are probably the best- you can put your hands in 3 different positions, and hunch down against a headwind. A cycle computer is worth it's weight in gold too- they are quite cheap now. And its hard to keep up the enthusiasm if you are the only one riding- joining a club or finding someone to ride with is good if you can. My garage is full of bikes (9 of them to be exact) but I could ride for an hour, and still not get away from Redneckville, Australia, so I always drive instead.

ONE REASON
by snare&racket inout of interest, and to formulate a cordial chat, would you give your top one reason for your belief or non belief?.
my foremost 'one reason' for non belief is:.
the historical evidence that provides an explination and timeline for how the modern religious doctrine's and dogma developed over time.. .
