although i am now very atheist, and really do not even think there is the remotest possibility of a god, that bible passage is correct.
LOL, I'll tell you the only thing my grandmother said that I know of (she died the year I was born) - 'Life is all anticipation'. And that's it - humans are goal-setting creatures, always working towards and looking forwards towards some new thing again and again, until they eventually drop dead.

Probably every JW outside of the US has wondered why the UN is supposedly so evil.... probably the Watchtower were just playing on the American distrust of the UN that existed due to the inclusion of the Soviet Union & Red China. A cold war slogan was 'UN is two letters in the word communism'.

i left the organization in 2011 and never look back.
i left behind my sister and her two daughters by mid 2015 both her daughters (both are in their early twenties) were disfellowshipped and left the organization.
she has decided to go to costa rica as a missionary (i guess that's what they are still calling them, unless that has changed, been gone so long i don't know if they came up with a new term for it).
if god is omnipotent (all powerful) why did he take six days (or six thousand years jw.org) to.

they say you mellow out with age.maybe so but not in my case.l feel its an insult and degrading to us humans to have to live the way we do if there is a god.deep down l guess l do believe theres a god but lm having great difficulty trying to understand why things are the way they are.l dont need a bible bashing from anyone l just feel frustrated and helpless.l just battle on like everyone else but l get the feeling theres a whole lot more to our existence.
i mean, i don't want to be miserable or anything, but what's the bloody point of it all?.

What is the point? The point is you - live your life, make your own successes & failures, find your own path regardless of other people's opinions, so you have no regrets- you own it all. Celebrate life, and keep marching on when you can't.

Interesting thread. I was raised by my JW mum & non-JW dad, who was anti-war for personal reasons; so I grew up believing that war & the military were wrong. But now I've read many books about war, and come to my own conclusion - which is that its a very complex issue, beyond the ability of any one person to explain. For me it is entirely theoretical - I have no connection to the military, and never will have. We are moving into an age of greater human rights for all, and where people will value their lives, and the lives of others more highly than in the past; so maybe the huge loss of life, and wars between countries will no longer happen, and the 'hawks' and others who support military action will be seen as dinosaurs. But this could be 100 - 200 years into the future, too.

Sometimes it just takes the right person to say 'It's a complete crock...' and then you realise that it is a crock, and always will be, so then you chuck it all away and move on.
