I was harassed for years after I left my KH. I still have to deal with them on occasion since my in-laws are JWs and sometimes get a bur up their tailpipes. Stuff like this can be very good to know.

Quoting out of context - ever justified?
by cognisonance injw literature on subjects such as creation vs. evolution often quote out of context, with the most recent material (the newest brochures) acknowledging that often those quoted to support the jw viewpoint do believe in evolution nonetheless.
sometimes indeed quotes in jw literature are just outright misquotes, leaving off preceding or succeeding words (or sentences) that would completely alter the meaning of the source sited (i.e.
carl sagans quote, the fossil evidence could be consistent with the idea of a great designer is indeed a flat out misquote).. .

For me, quoting practices like these are simply unacceptable. Unless you're doing some sort of satire, there are no acceptable (or honest) reasons to hack and slash the source's original thoughts to pieces just so you can reassemble them in a way that suits your purposes. Certainly not without pointing out what you have done.
Even the partial quote thing is, to me, way too slippery unless you clearly point out that you are quoting the half of the statement that agrees with you, then go ahead and quote the rest.
If you don't point out what the full thought was, you are allowing the reader to think - because you implied it by omission - that the source agrees with you in full. This lends weight to your argument in the reader's mind; a weight that your argument doesn't deserve. As far as I am concerned, if you do this, you are cheating. ON PURPOSE.
To me, this simply rings as an excuse and comes off as really underhanded.
Also, putting the burden on the reader to fact you just isn't good enough. You're the author. Fact checking your work is your job, not mine. If I need to go to a library to check your facts and discover that your book isn't half as convincing as it seems, then you haven't done your job. Also, again, that's really underhanded. You gave me a presentation that made your work seem more convincing than it really was and used this as a lame excuse in case you got caught. I won't trust anything else you write ever again.
To me, these are slippery excuses for twisting the truth to suit one's purpose. Nothing more. I remember a book by Al Franken - I think it was the Lying Liars book - that sort of lampooned the absurdity of claims like these.
You can make mistakes, but even then, you own up to them once you realize what you've done.

First shunning, now love bombing
by hoser ini had mentioned in an earlier thread that brother and sister hoser were being unofficially shunned at the kingdom hall.
now i think that they realize it is not having the.
desired results( we are quite happy on our own, and have done a few things with our non-jw neighbors).. .

When they came after me, they did it in droves. My congregation was big - about 300 people! And that was 17 years ago. Attendance was so bad they never split the KH until recently. But they hounded me so bad that if this happened today, I would call the cops.
Just wondering, are the Witnesses who have made these invites people you knew, or ones who are almost total strangers? That's how a lot of it was with me.

Scriptures seem to hint that Jehovah/Yahweh is a SON of God?
by EndofMysteries inafter the past few years of trying to really figure out what the bible is teaching and no influence, one of the things has been that possibly the god of the israelites may have been a son.
i want feedback on what i am about to show.
this is the tip of the iceberg, just one angle of what may be going on.

Karen Armstrong's book, "A History of God," offers an explanation for this. It seems that some historians believe that the deity cited in the Bible, which we believed to be the Christian God, was actually several different deities who were later reinterpretated as a single being. Yahweh may have originally been viewed as the son of the patriarch god, called "El." In other words, Yahweh was one member of a pantheon of gods. He was sort of like their version of Ares, a god of war.
I do not know how many historians subscribe to this view, but it does make sense. I have not heard any scholarly attempts to refute it as of yet.
There are also issues with the ancient manuscripts that add to this. Some of them were edited, and combined different portions of other, older manuscripts, to form something new.
If you're interested, this video might help explain it some more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlnnWbkMlbg

Bear in mind that Anonymous (or whoever the group is) is supposedly trying to get some attention over this. There are plenty of XJWs who are cheering them on and trying to support their efforts to get attention over this. That could be someone's motivation for sending that message out. Maybe they're hoping it will make the news that Anonymous has broken into Hushmail and the news will then mention the WTS pedo cases in the message?
I'm honestly not sure about the whole Anonymous story. I will reserve judgment until something actually gets released.

I also shudder at how some behave toward the Witnesses, especially if it's unprovoked. I would prefer that we come off as the good guys in these encounters. I can appreciate how it feels to see another XJW stand up to them, however. But overall, I prefer dialogue (when possible) as well.

Jehovah's Witnesses vs. Pharisees
by processor inalso here: http://eng.svhelden.info/?page_id=22.
similarities between pharisees and jehovahs witnesses.
pharisees .

This comparison would still be useful in showing the similarities to JWs, who actually do believe that these things were true of the Pharisees.

JWB, I actually started working on something like that at my site for a laugh. I got sidetracked with all the news that's been coming out this month so I haven't finished it yet. My Adventures With Sparlock, that sort of thing.
My wife had a good idea I want to implement as well: a fake series of articles where people write in to Sparlock for advice and he tries to answer. Sort of like an "Ask Sparlock!" instead of a "Young People Ask." Most of answers would involve booze and hookers. Cuz that's how the Sparlock inside my head rolls.
I saw what you did at the Uncyclopedia, Dropoff. Thanks. I mean to make it bigger, culminating it with inspiration from your entry, if I get the chance. Or unless someone else makes it funnier.
Thanks for the comments, guys.
