I would be interested in it. My wife still goes to conventions. Also, it could be put on YouTube and used for various writing projects. As in, "Can you believe they said that?? See how nuts these guys are!!"

She asked me a question; “Do you know what the world would look like if no one ever sinned?” I answered, “Well, I supposed we’d all be running around naked and living in a big Garden.”
“That’s right and one day Jehovah is going to return the earth to its original purpose.”
“You mean we’re all going to be running around naked in a big Garden?”
That's pretty close to how my sensibilities react to claims like this. A very overzealous in-law, who doesn't know when to quit, once handed me a magazine that had a pic of their paradise on the cover. It was the usual scene of a forest filled with multi-cultural pals wondering around with painfully sharp smiles. She pointed to a spot on the cover that was devoid of any shiny, happy people, and asked me, with tears in her eyes, "Would you like to be here?"
I told her no. "I'm allergic to bugs." (I also sunburn easily.)

I gave blood last week--first time ever. My hematology class helped out with a local blood drive, so I signed up to donate while I was there.

Is this true? Do the elders really do it like this?
by Julia Orwell ini put this week's wt paragraph about disfellowshipping on my fb page and said how poor robert's family didn't even check to see whether he was dead or alive in 16 years and a friend of mine of the 'conscious class' commented about how unchristian she felt disfellowshipping to this degree is, and i agreed.. another friend, and uber-jw who has a host of illnesses and yet pioneers, who everytime she and her husband go to another congregation, if he's not appointed within three years they move to another and try for an appointment there - he used to be an elder and no one is willing to promote him again- replied to my thread.
now keep in mind she has a dfd son and she doesn't even know whether he is dead or alive, because she follows the wt to the tee.
she replied, among other things, with this:.

The reality is that elders wield a lot of power in their KHs. JWs - even many XJWs - often underestimate this. It's one of the reasons why one congregation can be surprisingly moderate while another can be strict even by WT standards within the same area. It really boils down to the body of elders.
If your elders choose to interpret things as being black and white, then that's how it will be. If they choose to look the other way for things that other KHs in your area would DF you for, that's how it will be as well. But only at that KH.
Most of them seem to fall somewhere in-between. Halls vary more than people seem to realize. Including the uber-JW.

JJ Abrams to direct Star Wars Episode VII
by cedars insimultaneously breathing life into the two biggest sci-fi franchises?.

Only if Disney buys Paramount. But you never know, I guess.
I think JJ Abrams might be better for Star Wars than he was for Star Trek. There were some things I didn't like in the new movie, but a lot I did like. Star Trek was always very cerebral, more often to the point of absurdity than I really noticed at the time. JJ Abrams maybe took it too far in the other direction for me. But Star Wars seems right up his alley.

Would a downtown NY public protest against shunning help or harm the Watchtower Corp?
by tootired2care inso i was having an interesting thought the other night -- albeit probably not original, but interesting.
what would be accomplished if thousands of us banded together and held a huge protest of the issue of shunning family right behind the governing body's headquarters (25 columbia heights) in brooklyn bridge park?
the shunning of non-believing family is a strong issue that i'm sure everyone of us could get behind 100%.

I had wondered about XJWs like us holding some sort of convention of our own, but making it a "debaptism," so that it would gain any attention in the press as it did when some ex-Mormons tried debaptizing themselves. Something like that, held on neurtral terriroty rather than the WT's doorstep, might be better. You'd be a bunch of people just doing their own thing and not oppressing anyone. There would be no footage of a mob howling outside the Society's doors while innocent JWs minding their own business smiled knowlingly, as they have done in other YouTube videos I have seen.
The press would ask why you're doing it, and you'd be ready with an answer like, "Because the WT shuns people who change their minds about the Society having the one and only true religion. It's forces thousands of people to stay JWs who don't want to be just so they can talk to their family's." Or whatever. You'd have to think carefully about the statement and make it fairly short, though. It would have to be a statement of fact and less an accusation they could refute.
The question is, can you make it newsworthy? Can you get enough exxers interested?

I am actually reading A History of God right now, so the original topic interests me. As far as who's more disrespectful, atheists or believers, I'm sure we all know that there are members of both groups that are guilty of that. I find that fundamentalists and especially evangelists on the Christian side are often very judgmental and offensive. But so are some atheists. Both sides will tend to think the other is worse.
Unless someone has hard evidence, as far as I'm concerned, this is getting you nowhere. If you're a rude Christian or a rude atheist, you're bound to think the guys on the other side of the fence are the real jerks. That's just how it is.

Has the GB ever explained how they receive "new light" from Jehovah?
by cobaltcupcake ini remember a long time ago the explanation was that various anointed ones would write to the gb with the same new understanding of a teaching, the gb would investigate it, and if it was acceptable, they'd pass it on to the r&f.
of course, now we have the new light that new light occurs only to the gb, not the anointed at large.
so, if any anointed ones get new ideas, they're just apostates, right?.

The GB has yet to even receive a postcard from God, Jesus, or even the Easter Bunny. They're just a bunch of old guys with a really high opinion of their own opinions.

Hard Boiled Eggs Cannot Be Peeled . . . Ever!
by compound complex ingood morning, friends:.
it's nearly 3:00 a.m., and i needed a midnight snack.
i didn't want to fry an egg so i tried to peel a couple cooked eggs.
-
IsaacJ22
Try boiling them with some baking soda in the water. Then peel them before they get too cool. Supposedly cooling them down with ice water also helps, but I find once they are completely cooled off, they get harder to peel again.
Peel one end of the egg off. If you do it right, they'll almost fall out of the shell on their own.
Some dude made videos about peeling hb eggs on YouTube. If you want, look for the video for detailed advice.
