when my brother said this to me the other day, i tried my hardest to try to explain why the watchtower's polices on sexaul abuse and molestation in the past, and he said that it was the parents fault (not the watchtowers fault) that these children got molested, and that its the parents job to protect the children.
i tried to tell his thick headed, simple minded self that back in the day parents were threated with disfellowshippment and dissassociation if they reported this to the police.

Joliette, it is def mind control. Notice how he uses the passive: "If some kids got molested" I denotes that the kids must have done something or failed to behave in a manner logical. Like if I walk outside on a rainy day. "If cage fighter get's wet, it's because he forgot he umbrella." How ever if some one ambushed me with a bucket of water that would sound weird to say. "Cage fighter was wet, because he got a bucket or what dumped on him". No instead logically you would say, "Some jerk dumped water of Cagefighter and got him wet."
If your bro was thinking logically he would have not used the passive. The sentence as impromper morally should read "If there were child molestors in the KH, it is not the WT's fault."
The mind is scary.

Why don't they adapt to other cultures? (an American religion?)
by hijosdelawatch ini guess the majority of you haven't noticed that being an american, canadian, british, australia... (being involved in the anglosaxon culture) but there are situations in other cultures that make jws seem a bit bizarre.. since the watchtower is quite rigid and bureaucratic, it's reluctant to adapt to different cultures.
so sometimes even the brothers feel very uncomfortable adopting all this "watchtower culture" and even not knowing what to do in some situations.. for example, here in spain women keep their maiden names.
but for some reason, it's the watchtower culture to adopt a particular system.

How many people on here have low self-esteem?
by Chemical Emotions ini do, so i was just curious.. i know the org tends to attract/cause/contribute to people having low self-esteem, so i figure a lot of people must have it as bad or worse than me..

The cult wraps your sense of self-worth into your relationship with the "org". It is similar to an abusive spouse that makes you only believe you are worthy when you are making them happy.
It tends to make people very co-dependent which means our happiness begins to rest on the actions, decisions, and words of others. It's hard to imagine but that is not normal or healthy.
Co-dependent no more is a good book on the issue. Feel free to get counseling or coaching from someone that has a good grasp of co-depency issues. You will see some great results is you are honest with yourself.
