some time ago someone posted some information here from some of the wt literature (possibly questions from the readers) that shows it would be inappropriate for a jw to attend the funreal of a disfellowshipped person.
when our son was undergoing cancer treatment while disfellowshipped we realized that if he didn't make it, we'd be on our own to bury him.
thankfully he survived but it was this realization and the way the family and friends abandoned us during our darkest hour that started our exit from the religion and eventually sent us packing for good.
I am not DF'd. I just faded years ago. I have it in writing absolutely no JW funeral. My parents and I reached a truce a decade ago. They know nothing of my current religious affiliations. We just gonna burn that bridge whenever I die or get married. Whichever comes first. Hopefully they will be long gone before me.
my gradmother used to tell me about a catholic icon at her aunt's house which was demon possesed and once blinked at her.
.
any other good stories of possession from people you know?.
I have not heard the voices as an adult, but as a kid I heard voices all the time saying my name.

I have burned books and papers. (I don't trust shredders). You have to get airflow between the pages until it balls up and get's roaring. If you trust try and light the corner of a stack of papers it will go out, much less a book.
the first few minutes are fairly unremarkable, but it gets a little more interesting towards the end.... you can just about hear a child in the background say "oooh, there's a light in the sky.".

Well it is very high up there. I can not figure out what that is and neither can anyone else. It was moving around up there, in broad daylight.

I had a friend and his Mom told us she was bit by a possessed garden nome. About six months later she left my friend's Dad and her family for about six months to work as a cocktail waitress and bang a bunch of dudes. She was a MILF.
She got it out of her system. Came home. Showed up to the KH one Sunday were everyone showered her with love, tears, and hugs. Then they promptly shunned her next week when she was df'd.
She took her licks and got re-instated. I never understood what she did even as a kid. I certainly never understood why she came back knowing she would carry the scarlet letter and be df'd. But her insanity did finally explain in my mind the whole demon possessed gnome story. She was obviously off her rocker from the start.

When it comes to UFO's this is the only thing I have scene that makes my head spin. I give you: "Prophet Yahew". I think he would fit in good at the KH

If there is life out there, we might want to keep a low profile untill we work out our own issues on earth. Just ask the native americans how "contact" worked out for them. They got a cold for the first time, then they got drunk for the first time, and then they lost their land and civilization.
my italian friend loves going to the "feasts" that occur in italy, boston or nyc.
these feasts feature a "saint" with dollar bills pinned around her and they parade the saint in a long procession and chant "viva (whomever)".
they are quite serious about this and are proud to talk about the past generations of observers who appreciated the events.
The point of traditions and so forth are to get us in a place where we connect with God. Catholicism has some wonderful traditions although I agree some take them on a shallow level and the veneration of the saints and Mary goes a little too far in my opinion. Still, I do not dismiss the church on a whole because everything does not appeal to me.
relationship issues: boundaries, freedom of choice and codependency .
i just read a very interesting thought in the book, "boundaries" by cloud & townsend.
the basic problem in human relationship is that of freedom.
The JW concept of God breeds co-dependency.
Obey the GB and Jehovah and God is nice to you.
Disobey and the GB and Jehovah will destroy you (but only because they love you)
This is how abusive relationships tend to work.
There are a lot of religions Christian and others that claim God is love, pure and simple. Sometimes he allows us to suffer the consequences of our decisions or others, but that isn't really his fault now is it? That is what I believe.
Relationships with others are still a constant struggle for me.
