The fastest scripture looker upper
by SacrificialLoon ina comment by rubadub in the thread about learning new things at the meetings made me remember something, and gave me a chuckle.. i would always see how fast i could look up the scriptures during the talks, and race to beat most everyone else.
of course everyone else didn't realize i was racing them, but i'd always feel a smug (and perhaps a bit self-righteous) satisfaction at having the scripture looked up and ready to follow along while from the sights and sounds around me most everyone else was still looking it up.
being able to look up jehovah's word with such speed would surely earn me spiritual brownie points.

I'll meet anyone not on this list:
Outnfree, BSoM, Darth Frosty, Buttlight, Whyamihere, Blondie, Irreverent, Aztec, Check_Your_Premises, Hmmm, Rational Witness, Larc, Lutece67, Gadfly, AK Jeff, Emma, Hillbilly, Star Moore, Lisavegas420, Freedom Frog, Pettygrudger, Kwintestal, Confession, Junction-Guy, Gwyneth, Noidea, Myself (If I left someone off, I sincerely apologize for forgetting you!)
Those are the ones I've met. I am not going to name the ones I want to meet -- let's just say it includes everyone that posts to this board.

If there were no boundaries, where would you like to live?
by JH inno boundaries, but still differenet speaking languages, and different looking people and different customs, but no boundaries so you could find work anywhere and have the same privileges than you would have in your own country.. i'd definitely move where it's warmer.
that wouldn't be hard to find.... .

OH! Another great HBO show(not on any longer) was Oz. A buddy of mine at work and I rented all of the dvd's and watched them in our office. After the first few episodes, we would get to laughing at even the bad stuff happening(it's a very serious drama). Gotta warn you though, there's quite a bit of full-frontal male nudity in it. But they did an excellent job in casting the show.

Just watched "Knocking" last nite
by LennyinBluemont inwell, i felt it would be inappropriate to write a letter to pbs complaining about their airing of this documentary, "knocking", without having seen it myself, so i ordered a copy at the exorbitant cost of about $36, and it took over a month for it to arrive.
i agree with gary buss, that it is very polished and well-done.
a few quick reactions:.

Lenny, you mentioned you knew three of the people in the credits who provided funding for this video. Were any of them named Reibling? I had noticed this on the Knocking website --- http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/121916/1.ashx

Aussies, Shiraz, and Neophyte Drinkers
by jgnat inthis post is in honor of ozziepost, one of our long-standing australian posters.
i am probably posting this in the perfectly wrong time of day, so if one of our australian friends could bump this thread when you are all waking up, i'd appreciate it.. ozziepost is well known for his love offfair with shiraz, an australian wine.. you may not know this about me, but i am a neophyte drinker.
i like to be in charge (is anyone surprised), and acohol unacceptably takes away my sense of self-control.

jgnat, if you like the sweeter varieties, a late-harvest riesling would probably be to your liking. The better LH's come from the Finger Lakes area of New York, Traverse City - MI, and Germany. As Scully brought up, Ice Wines are delicious(the best ones are made with riesling grapes). They are definitely dessert wines - almost syrupy when poured. Not a "wine" you would drink regularly.

If you liked Deadwood and Carnivale, I don't know how you missed out on watching The Sopranos. Get them on DVD for the full effect. The new A&E versions are quite literally watered down. But they don't edit out the word "shit."
If you generally like the HBO shows, have you seen any of the Curb Your Enthusiasm's? Hillarious. I've got all of those on DVD.

If one really followed what the text itself says, one would never go so far afield in reaching for latter day "fulfillments".
Most religions, and not just the WTS, have this problem. I believe the term the WTS uses is "parallel fulfillment." Even if the biblical prophecy was intended for a specific time period in the past and was already fulfilled, the WTS always assumes that there will be a "greater fulfillment" which will also be carried out in our day as well. The KofN is a perfect example of this. According to history, this prophecy was already fulfilled. Where does the bible say that it would take place in the future yet once again?

From your first topic, I couldn't figure out what you were going to say. Now it is clear. Crystal clear.
Don't worry Dave, I'm pretty sure no one is going to come out and say they are not going to talk to you anymore(well, I can think of one particular person on this board as of recent).
Anyone who is willing to bbq WT's with me is alright in my book.
