I agree. Don't accept their handshake or smiles. Don't stoop to their level. You can still be at peace with yourself without saying a word to them who have harmed you or your loved ones. IMO j2bf

lookin, I'm glad you are brave enough to start looking. My husband and I were at bethel in the 70's during some wonderful changes and left to have kids. Why it took us so long to really look at the facts is beyond me. But please keep looking and if you could, read Ray's account in Crisis of Conscience. I wish I did 20 years ago!!! j2bf

You are so right that sex is no fun. But, I tell my pts there is a property in semen that softens your cervix and a good orgasm helps you go into labor on time. The orgasm has to be yours, not hubby's. Hot, sweaty sex is good for inducing labor!!! j2bf

Should I send a letter to the CO?
by Sirona insome of you may remember that when i joined this forum i was having problems at home regarding the un issue.
everything appears to have settled down now and i promised my mum that i wouldnt mention it again to her.
however, looking back at the events around that time, i feel that the circuit overseer not only made it difficult for me, but also for my mother.

This man in NOT interested in any truth but promoting the wbts. How will the letter effect your standing (inactive) in the cong? Will it begin a process you are ready for? Is the letter really going to help your mother see what is real about the jws or put a further rife between you two? What do you hope to gain? the man (he will lie to promote the wbts) or really reach your mother. Drop the issue and start on another subject that may get her questioning things. 2 cents. j2bf

Oh my god! My heart goes out to you. What you know now and what you knew then, what a difference. You are a very brave person just to keep living. How I hate any "thing" that can have such control over other peoples lives. j2bf

LDH, please reread that sentence. 332 mothers didn't die, they were just the number of jws who used that facility to deliver. I think the article said only 2 died! (still 2 too many) Life is very precious and not the symbol of it, but there are no guarentee in life. Hope all goes well (as it usually does) in your delivery. Just make sure you are comfortable with your practitioner!!! j2bf

Hi Metatron! (And thanks Cassiline for posting the web site.) Do you always browse through the green journal?
I would like to comment on that article because it is an issue close to something I do in life.
First I would like to point out that the study’s population qualification for being in that study was just being a jw. It did not take into account medical history, family history or the situation that lead to the women’s death. How someone manages a pregnancy/delivery/postpartum has a major influence on the outcome. A sloppy surgeon, neglectful practitioner who waits to the last moment to handle a crises or not recognizing hemorrhaging or other health issues until it is too late, effects the outcome. I felt the article was presented to sensationalize the terrible outcome of jws in childbirth and didn’t deal with practitioners’ responsibility. This I feel coule only lead to medical/legal problems for those of us who care for anyone with “ideas” contrary to the norm. Are we going to be sued because we took care of them in our practice?
Don’t get me wrong, I do not support the “no blood theory” anymore, and am very concerned about the borg’s misleading innocent people to accept that theory. Innocent lives are needlessly dying for the want of a “simple” medical solution. (Kind of like people who used to sacrifice their children by passing them through the fire!)
Unfortunately, I just don’t feel that the study will be noticed by the gb to help them change their minds about the rules they put on others'lives and most jws won’t understand the implications, especially medical/legally it may have.
I guess I still have mixed emotions about this article, because I see a big red flag medical/legally for a problem that was biased and no real management/solutions presented. (What about the risks of treating Christian Scientist? Or others?) I guess the real question is how do we help the duped jws in the meantime?
Just my 2 “sense” j2bf -

active and happy jw
by scumgrief ini am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

Sounds like you are enjoying your social life. Please take time to read the Bible and see what Jesus meant at Mtt 24:4, "becareful that no one misleds you".(Phillips) There are many stories on this board to learn from and there are many "active JWs" who are really reading God's word and not just what is regurgitated for us. How the JWs helped me
by larc inall of us have had negative experiences as a result of leaving the witnesses, some much worse than others.
many here, have expressed a bitterness and an anger over loosing so many "wasted" years.
while these are natural feelings, i think there are several positives we can dwell on as well.

Thanks larc for that nice post. I agree with you that we need to look at the positives in our lives. I am just recently extracating myself, still have family in. But my experience was different in that while raised a JW, exBethelite, I went to college to insure I could support my family and myself if somthing happened to my husband. (Didn't want to depend on life insurance) Also, I was mentally dying in a rural area serving where the "need was great". My husband, an elder, got hasseled alot for allowing me to go to school and persure my dream of becoming a midwife (legally), I was already doing homebirths for some of the friends. Anyway, surpressing quilt all those years for not being up to standards, ie hours of field service, bible studies, etc., I had relied upon speaking skills, time management, ability to follow through and study habits to get me through my courses. Now many years of dealing with the real world and seeing others qualities and being complimented on mine, I finally realized I had some good qualities I could be proud of and management skills that were developed while young that has allowed me to "shine" above the rest. I still, though, am dealing with the feelings of being so duped all those years (even though I was rebellious in my own way) and not wanting to be bitter or hateful. I appreciate your comments and hope that others who lurk will see that there is calmness and peace with oneself after leaving an organization that is so controlling. Now I am trying to really develop my christan qualites and help my children/family see the true message of Jesus's sacrafice.
