Welcome to the board "NoMoreMeetings".
Sorry to hear about your losses.
i have been having a really crappy day (except for the 2 hours i had coffee and chat with talesin .
i can't believe how understanding and co-operative they were.
my mom did say, "i bet you don't think we handled it correctly.
wow, good for you, Kwin.
What a major thing you did for yourself today.
everyone takes it for granted that the israelites worshipped jehovah there, thus making it a fitting name.. the bible states otherwise:.
amos 3:1414: "that on the day i punish israel for his transgressions, i will punish the altars of bethel, and the horns of the altar shall be cut off and fall to the ground.
amos 4:44: "come to bethel, and transgress; to gilgal, and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days; .
"which god?"
El
Please read Karen Armstrong's "History of God" and you'll learn that Jehovah was one of 70 sons of El. Thus Bethel.
.
i know that this has probably been asked a million time but does anyone know where i can get a wt cd-rom (if anywhere)??
and does it have all the publications on it or just the wt and awake???.
unfortuneately you cannot show the inconsistences from the CD rom. The WT changes what it puts in there.
Gentil Times revisited by CO Jonnson is good for comparing WT old stuff.
Also, James Penton's book "Apacalypse Delayed" has some inconsistencies in them.
I doubt your parents would believe the changes unless they look at their own literature and see it in their own library.
Have fun anyway.
Keep trying,
Joy
to just lay it all on the line, tell the whole story right here on jwd, sign my real name and let the world know that i am not any longer wishing to be known as a jw?
aside from a cleansing effect - it would prove just how close the wts is scrutinizing this site.. not that i really have a need to do so - but just wondering about how it would go.
i don't really care what they do to me, to be honest.
that is nice to hear. I stay around to help others "out" knowing how much help this place was for me.
back atcha!
i keep jwd up at work all day.
i frequent this site throughout the day.
when i get home at night, the last thing i want to do is look at a computer screen.
join the JWD addiction 12 step program

*can't say anything due to emotions of dealing with a cult and a bad blood policy*
I'm so sorry for your losses and the emotions that can still be stirred up thinking about the JWs and their arragonce.

Ok, here's the story for those who don't know it.
Hubby & I were trying to fade (after 40 years, it's hard to do). So we became involved with the child abuse issue. What better issue to stand up for. Even went to the candlelight vigil in KY while we were "in good standing". We were even posting on this board for over 2 years before we were df'd. We went public with the child abuse issue, TV spot, Newspaper article and even participated on the march at Brooklyn. That's when the elder's gave a "needs" talk (about us) and the shunning began. It was Sept 02. We didn't go back to meetings, hoping to be left alone. But no, the elders were waiting for direction from "Mother". Then in Feb 2003 they wanted to meet with us. Pulled out several pages of copied material from JWD trying to get us to admit to being "Jst2laws" and "joy2bfree". I walked out, saying they have no control over me. Hubby stayed to try and reason with his old buddies. They would not give us any reason for df'ing or 2 witnesses. Just said we were *gasp* apostates.
Just to let ya know, it took at least 2 years after having our eyes open to deprogram. Yes, many many years of being a faithful "true believer" takes time. So please be patient with yourself and enjoy life.
Now go do what you want to do, its your life.
Hugs,
Joy
i hope there is someone who had a similar situation and would advise to me.. my daughter veronica is 8. her mom (we are divorced) is a hard core jw.
she puts lots of pressure on my daughter for her to lead a jw approved lifestyle.
but kids are kids.
I agree with Old Soul...teach her critical thinking. As JWs we never learned it ourself, but maybe you can find some books her age level to start with. When she learns critical thinking in life situations, she'll apply it to the JWs and see all the false reasoning, strawmen, circular reasoning, etc.
Also, very importantly, show her unconditional love.
Try not to attack the JW religion but just get her to reason on why she believes something. Otherwise, she'll learn to build fences around her religion and her thinking and won't let you in.
Good luck.

i have a dilemma (did i spell dilemma correctly?
): i am the only person i know, of any of my former witness associates, who left because i started doubting/stopped believing the teachings.
i did research on the internet, read books, talked to people from different religions, etc.
walk-away-believers is what I call them.
Just like JW's you can't change their mind. They have to be willing to see the WT for what it is.
If you don't want to lose their friendship, don't let it slip what you have found out. But if you don't care and want to quit looking over your shoulder, then drop subtle hints about the wrong dogma, dates, etc.
