I especially hated the stories about people who supposedly swam across crocodile infested rivers, hacked their way through a jungle or climbed over a mountain to attend their meetings.
That brings back some memories lol. Don't forget the one about the man braving bandits to get to the meetings knowing he would be murdered if caught. They did catch him in fact, but the bandits were so impressed with his faith that they let him go. Yeah, right . Then there was the crippled elderly sister who crawled for miles to the meeting on her hands and knees rather than miss it when there was nobody available to take her. Who on earth was this martyr to the faith? Possibly this Ethiopian girl's grandmother?

My heart goes out to you Witness 007. I know only too well what that pain is like. When our dog died we were all overwhelmed with grief and still miss him terribly, but thank goodness the heart wrenching pain has now eased off.
Also, please rest assured that you are quite normal in your feelings of guilt, wondering if you could have done more at the time. I was exactly the same and tortured myself for ages as I went over and over his last days in my head thinking of ways I could have made things better. This is all part of the normal grieving process and WILL pass in time even though you may not believe it right now.
Hopefully by reading these posts it will help knowing you are not on your own with your unbearable pain and anyone who has lost a beloved pet will know the pain and the emotions you are feeling right now. Try not to beat yourself up over it. Your lab was really lucky to have had such a happy life with owners who adored him.
Take care Witness 007. Please be assured time is a great healer

I whole heartedly agree dgp. If by some miracle this story was true, just think of the wonderful things this girl could achieve for herself, her family and her community with the money she earned, which would be on a parr with winning the lottery for most of us.
My friend's daughter who has actually lived among Ethiopians in the course of her charity work, told us some heart rending tales of poverty, the lack of food and medicines or clean water, and how she and her colleagues literally picked up a dying child and drove for miles to a hospital to get vital treatment for her which her family could not afford. Most children she came across were lucky to get any form of education at all. Of course, it is likely that there are poor areas and more affluent areas like any other country in the world but it still seems a bit hard to believe that a girl should not only be in a position to turn down higher education, but then on leaving school with no qualifications be offered an incredibly high paid job.
If I get a chance, I will ask my friend's daughter what she thinks about this story.

Excellent topic. Even after 20 years I still have occasions when I find myself faced with irrational fears caused by all the mind control sessions I used to attend. This site has helped a lot!!

A friend's daughter spent a few weeks in Ethiopia a couple of years ago doing charity work. She said the poverty was overwhelming and nobody she met had enough money to even feed themselves properly, let alone get a decent education.
For an Ethiopian girl to have been given such a brilliant education, then be offered such a well salaried job on leaving school is frankly ludicrous.

Increased promotion of 'worship' to the Faithful Slave in the Watchtower
by callitquits76 ini have heard it said that over the past few months, the magazines have been filled with pro-gb garbage promoting complete obedience to the body.
can anybody point me to any examples?.

In the new song book, the words of many songs have also been changed to promote worship of the organisation. There was a topic on that a few months ago.

Getting upset with children who cannot sit through the meetings.
by life is to short inok this thought came to me the other day.
i was thinking of the co who told me that he liked to see parents spank their children for not sitting still during the meetings.. i remember how hard it was to sit through two hours when i was four or five years old.
it was like forever.. i was thinking of comparing the hours that we have been alive to how long two hours is for a child.

I never got upset with my children but I DID get upset with the idiots who tried to order us to make them sit silently through long meetings they were too young to understand. One congregation we attended when our son was tiny wouldn't even tolerate the sound of a gurgling baby and insisted I stayed in the cold bookroom with no sound through out the meetings!
Just before our fade I can remember being at Dudley assembly hall and towards the end of a very long day our four year old son was sitting on the floor between us playing quietly with a toy, not disturbing anyone. A very pompous elder was sitting the other side of Hubby and was clearly very annoyed. He complained that our son was a distraction and practically ordered Hubby to put him back on the seat and take away his toy. Hubby just turned to the pompous elder and asked him if he had ANY idea how difficult it was to keep an active four year old boy quiet for an entire day? We are not talking about a couple of hours here! He added that our son was tired and we had no intention of distressing him by taking away his toy and making him sit on a seat that he had already sat on for far longer than was reasonable for such a small child!! We were both very annoyed and needless to say, we started a gradual fade quite soon after that episode. To cause distress to a tired child is heartless and cruel!!

Lol at Jambon1. That is so true! I can remember every year there were always a few wierd, bewildered and slightly deranged looking people who would be brought to the memorial by overzealous auxilliary pioneers, possibly attend a few meetings after the memorial then disappear, never to be seen again. I'm sure most of them hadn't got a clue what was going on
