New video release at district convention. Do Jws live like this?
by solomon ini just got back from the district convention and watched the new video.
can't remember what it is called but the main family live in a million dollar home and there teenage daughter drives a red convertable sports car.
probably worth about 50000$.

I watched this video with total amazement. The story gave the impression that the parents, particularly the father, were long term JWs (possibly born ins) and not newly converted. Therefore, how did they manage a millionaire's lifestyle on a window washer and office cleaner's pay? I would sincerely like to ask the GB to answer this question for me as a former obedient sister who sacrificed a career for them and am now surviving on a basic state pension, all so that I could spend the best years of my youth peddling WT literature from door to door as required.
So, there is nothing wrong with being a millionaire rank and file J W? Please explain how this can be true unless there are rules for some and not for others.
Ahh maybe their fortunes were inherited I hear you cry! Well surely a true Christian should live a modest lifestyle and all excess money donated to the World Wide Funds?
Hmmmm

JW refuses to provide wedding stationery to Gay couple
by KateWild ini was outraged at this and had to post it.. http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/jw-refuses-to-provide-wedding-stationery-to-gay-couple.
i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.
i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

Well it is no surprise that this sister should seek advice from the elders considering the fact that ALL jws are told to obey without question and they have their beliefs 'adjusted' every time New Light comes through from tbe GB. I bet there are many jws who arent exactly sure what the up to date teachings are regarding the overlapping generation, the GB being the FSD or what blood fractions are acceptable let alone if Jah is going to strike them dead for making wedding invites for people he might not approve of.
I know a young jw who was thinking about starting a cake making business until I pointed out that not all her customers would be jws and she might be required to make a cake for a celebration that went against her Watchtower trained concience, and she would not be able to discriminate without getting into problems. Needless to say she dropped that idea like a hot cake !

The CO visit this week he says" In August..."
by James Jackson inup until 5 years ago, the co used to work up their own parts for specfic congregations in their circuits.
everything is up to script, in other words, every co in the country are givings the same talks in the local congregations they visit.
what got me to cringe is when he said at the meeting, trying to encourage everyone to pioneer this august; he said :" you know this october it will be 100 years since gods kingdom began ruling, remember what happen when joshua told the israelites to march around jericho on the seventh day, and what happened when they let out a great war cry?

Same old carrot
Same old stick
When will the rank and file wake up and realise that the piece of string separating the two never gets any shorter?!
Sigh
Edited to say I think yadda's illustration of going round and round in a never ending circle sums it up perfectly!

Well, what can you say???? I am speechless.

Ooh if there was ever a quote guaranteed to send my blood pressure rocketing every time it's' mentioned it's this one from the 1969 Awake. Based on that article I was pressurised by my parents to get a part time cleaning job and pioneer for what was left of this wicked system of things. Now, as a pensioner surviving on a basic state pension, I see it side by side with the article from the March 2014 study edition of the WT stating that the trials that come with old age cannot be avoided. WHAT??! I am seething !! Yet the old timers still continue to lap it all up, all this wonderfulness spewing forth from the pages of God's own magazines. Give me strength!
Now where did I put my pills...........

I am going insane sitting here in the meeting listening to this repetitive garbage!
by stuckinarut2 inso i am sitting here at the meeting during the "book study".... the study is all about gods protective power!.
oh, yes, protective power....for righteous servants of his.....but what about all those who are trying to be good witnesses, serving the gb, who are not protected from harm?
!.

I know the feeling! Also, don't you just dread those over zealous sisters coming up to you at the end when your brain is as numb as your backside from sitting on those godawful seats for two plus hours, and gushing "Wasn't that a LOVELY" meeting, did you enjoy it?" which isn't an actual question as it is a foregone conclusion in their minds that you must have found the whole thing as rivetting as they have done. Aaahhhgg!
Sooo glad I don't have to go through that ritual any more

Watchtower® and their education
by punkofnice inok. i'm a brit as some of you know.. what i noticed with the wbt$ is how they only seem to write from an american cultural standpoint.
not a bad thing if you're one of my cousins form the usa i admit........ but.... here in the uk there are some things that are meaningless to us.. eg hazing.
this was warned about in a study and over here we had no idea what it was and it kind of alienated the congregation from the study.

I can remember having school essays returned to me with red marks through my Americanised spellings and also Watchtoweresque phrases that just don't feature in the outside world. One history lesson I remember being corrected for using the term BCE (before common era) as we are taught to do by the WTS instead of BC (before Christ). Very frustrating!

Problems of Dating the Watchtower Way
by enigma1863 ini wanted to know what problems you have learned about dating in the "truth" acording to there policy.
i feel like you dont really know someone until you live with them.
also some put on a false personality until they get what they want i.e.

I know of so many failed marriages between "spiritually strong" JWs, proving that a mutual love of "The Truth" is NOT all that's needed for a successful union. I can remember one particularly disastrous marriage that was annulled within about a week or so. I never found out the gory details other than they realised on their wedding night that a terrible mistake had been made! The mind boggles!!
When you take into account their belief that they are destined to spend forever in the New System with each other, how cruel and irresponsible to marry them off without allowing them to make sure they are thoroughly compatable. Obviously it is far better for them to spend eternity with someone totally unsuitable, who they only married out of desperation for a bit of nookie, than to risk touching each others' naughty bits without a walk down the aisle first!

This thread reminds me of a disturbing talk at a district assembly in the early 1970s. Back then all single JWs were expected to devote all our youthful energies into full time pioneering and were encouraged to "wait until the New System" regarding marriage. We were constantly getting lectures from the platform and in the literature about this because the end was soooooo close!
Anyway, this particular talk actually advised brothers who felt unable to remain single not to waste valuable time on courtships as the only thing that mattered was a mutual love of pioneering and being able to serve Jehovah full time together. Yes, that's right, just marry the first person you meet who is also looking for a marriage mate and you will automatically be compatable with each other!!
I wish I could recall the brother's name who gave that talk. I wonder how many messes up lives he was responsible for!

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

All the JWs I know seem to prefer the carting work these days for some reason. They set up their carts and portable tables outside train stations between 6.00 and 7.00 am to catch the early commuters, even in the middle of winter when it is freezing cold and still dark!
