In answer to your question, yes, the WTS is having cash flow issues. If they weren't, they wouldn't be selling off branch offices worldwide and downsizing the rest. Is it enough to break them? Doubtful, but it is great to see that their blatant hypocrisy getting out of hand.

by JW GoneBad ini was at a 2 day circuit assembly this weekend and i was surprised at how many times mention was made directly or indirectly reminding those in attendance (1,600) of the need to give $$$.
even in the soliloquies or skits they seemed to work in the need to give $$$.. it made me wonder if the society is having 'cash flow' problems and hence is desparate for cash.
over the years that i've attended conventions and assemblies the need to give $$$ has been subtle (imo), til now.

I listened to the meeting over the phone with my grandmother. This religion is nuts!!
by miseryloveselders inmy grandmother has been a little ill, and had to be put in a facility temporarily.
she should be getting out sometime next week.
i'm not particularly close with her, and that probably has a lot to do with my father.

I know what you mean MLE. I went to a meeting a few weeks ago and sitting there listening to the bullshit made me think pretty much the same thing. This is a total waste of my Sunday morning! I go just to show face and let the elders know I'm traveling a lot so they think I'm gone all the time.

It's pretty hypocritical of the WTS to say that violent entertainment has bad effects. I mean hell, read the OT, lots of violence, rape, pillaging, murder, adultery and war. Of course, most of this is perpetrated by the God of the OT.

Why has there never been a manual for wives of elders if the FDS cares so much for families
by life is to short inthere could be such chapters as.
1 how to raise children in the "truth" without a husband.. 2 how to not feel hurt when your husband ignores you during the meetings and talks to everyone else.. 3 how to handle your husband rushing with anther elder off to be with some poor depressed sister or family night after night when you are depressed yourself.. 4 what to do with yourself when you husband has talks out and he is busy gabbing with the other elders and you are standing alone watching the sisters stare but never coming over to talk to you as you stand there stupidly.. 5 how to handle the rude phone calls of members of the hall demanding your husband come over right now!.
6 how to explain to your children why their father is helping other families and has no time to spend with them.. 7 how to explain to your children that a quick build is more important than they are.. 8 how to explain to neighbors and coworkers why your husband is always busy with the congregation and can never help you around the house.. my husband and i were talking the other day and he brought up again that the wives of elders should consider the cost of marring an elder.. i never knew before we were married what it was truly like.

I would wait till the time is right to talk to your fam about your wishes. Like, after it's (boy or girl) born. Keep your pregnancy as positive as possible, that will directly affect your growing baby.

I've been reading a book that goes through the main points of Buddhism and I have been finding that enlightening as well. Gnostism and Buddhism have similar philosophies, to a point.
Again, like you, this is being used as a stepping stone for me. Thanks for your input MS!

Mad Sweeney, I do get that the author is quite dogmatic and I've found at times I kind of rolled my eyes on a sentence or two. It would have been great if it was more neutral, but I am enjoying reading some new ideas, if anything, this is opening the door to another path.
Truth be told, I've always sucked at reading the publications that the Society published on other religions. I mean I couldn't have told you what Buddhism was about 6 months ago!
Actually, not reading those books is a good thing!
As far as the belief that the universe was created imperfect, that's quite an opposing thought to what I grew up with, but I'm all about getting all sides of the story and get down to what is as true as possible in this propaganda filled world.

by still wondering inwhat happens when the rules regarding medical treatment are changed because it is now decided that the watchtower god does allows certain blood fractions after all but which formerly the wts said would offend him so much that offenders would be sent to gehenna?.
blood serums are just one example.
in 1954 the societys ruling on blood serums disallowed their use because using blood serums was displeasing to god.

The WTS would never admit they were wrong. They've had a lot of chances to do so with their failed prophecies, blood changes, generation changes, UN NGO exposé, Malawi, Mexico, Russia.... like I said, lots of chances to admit they were wrong.
they not only won't admit it, but they wouldn't even think of contacting all those that were wrongly sentenced. They think they are above reproach.
