i just got back from a real puke-fest of a jw wedding.. i'll post some notes from the ceremony but let's just say that i had to restrain myself from getting up and saying "don't agree to that"!

What I always loved were the wedding pictures from JW weddings where the wedding party had their glasses raised so it looked like they were toasting but they really were not............they just had their glasses raised.
So, there is always a way to get around some of this.........

after a lenthy illness, 10 years in total, my mother, margaret stecko, passed away peacefully today surrounded by family.
she was 84, and leaves behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
she was a jw but never shunned me.

in noting another post regarding a pdf version of the kingdom interlinear translation, i traversed the internet sites of several critics of this translation.

i wonder why the wts left the door to accusation so wide open?
it becomes an adjective so she said it could or should be translated "godlike" or "divine" but not God with a capt. G or implying that the Word was the same God Jesus worshipped nor "a god". I always found it interesting.

Actually, many of the translations that the Watchtower uses to support their rendering of John 1:1 may translate John 1:1 as the Word was Divine. Upon closer analysis of these translators' beliefs you will find that most of them are Trinitarians. For the Trinitarian a Divine being has all of the qualities of God and therefore anyone who has all of the qualities of God is God. So, to translate the verse and the Word was Divine is consistent with Trinitarian thought.

this disease is running rampant among jehovah`s witness`s..theres not one that dosen`t have it.it seems to be contagious.my mom has it,my dad had it,my brother has it,all the jehovah`s witness`s i know have it..an incredible loss of memory,a mental deterioration that can happen instantly!..it has nothing to do with every day life memory loss,like "alzhiemer`s"..it is loss of memory about thier own religion and only affects jehovah`s witness`s..it`s "jozhiemer`s disease"..have you,or do you know anyone who has a loss of memory about their own religion because of "jozhiemer`s disease?

It is also quite common for people who have joined abusive groups like the JWs to describe their life prior to becoming a JW as terrible. My mother does this with her family. I think the JW version of 'hope' is far more materialistic than mainstream Christianity.
Yep. I have said this on more than one occasion myself and now that they want the JWs to meditate on the pictures of paradise in their publications............Wow!!!! Talk about a materialistic hope.

Jeff S congradulations you have been part of the crowd mentality. Get in a situation like that and its easy to stay silent and let the crowd slam whoever just declined to argue further on a issue. Even though I assure you somebody read that encounter and thought these people are using a bully pulpit gang mentality and gossip instead of sound christian reasoning, yet stayed silent for fear of the crowd turning on them.Tell you what Jeff go to a NBA game and have somebody yell fire and you'll get the same reaction, people crushing each other in a effort to save thier own skin.

The JWs go to people's homes uninvited and give them a Tract making all kinds of claims particularly the claim that any religion that has members who engage in or condone sexual immorality of any kind is a false religion.
The problem is that all religions have members who engage in or condone sexual immorality. The reason for this is, of course, that all religions have members who are sinners. When this fact is pointed out to the JWs, that members of their own group have these same problems, they run and cry foul and call it JW bashing. I have, in no way, said that all JWs should be judged based on the actions of the ones who are engaging in or promoting sexual immorality. Nor have I said that all Muslims should be judged based on the actions of those who promote terrorism. However, the JWs have said that all religions who have members that engage in these behaviors are false and that they will be destroyed by God in the near future.

I was on a different forum where people were talking about getting copies of the tract on False Religion. Many were offended at some of the comments made by the Tract and some JWs came on to "clarify" things. When the people started asking them questions about their religious beliefs and bringing up certain things in the history of the Watchtower Society, the JWs all left saying that they refuse to speak with individuals who were only interested in "bashing" their religion.
It left a rather large impression on the people on the board many of whom had never really dialogued or attempted to dialog with a JW before, and I must say the impression was not all that positive.
