I'm currently watching it, I haven't heard anything on the 10 hour Pioneer rumor yet.

But they are only 8 imperfect men!!!
by notsurewheretogo ini'm fed up of my still-in wife using this excuse that they can utter wrong beliefs and doctrines.. .
the fact that there are imperfect humans involved in the organisation is very much irrelevant.. .
we all accept, including jdubs, that these men are just men who may think and say wrong things like the rest of us as they go about their own lives.

I brought up Psalms 146 which says "Do not put your trust in nobles. Nor in a son of man, who cannot bring salvation." I applied it to the GB and I got into a few arguments over that one.

Terminology the Society Hates?
by toweragent inin my most recent talk, i got counseled for using some terms that were not prefered.
for example i said "new testament" rather than "the christian greek scriptures".
i also used the term "gospel", but even worse, i made reference to the "synoptic gospels" and the "gnostic gospel".. i guess i never thought of it before, but when i looked at the societies information on the matter they always say things like, "the so-called new testament..." or "the so-called synoptic gospels..." why with all the "so-called?".

In talking with a group of "friends" last night, I accidentally slipped another one: "fall from grace" and "orginal sin".
I guess the preferred term is "the rebellion in the garden."
Go figure.

Question for those converted to JW as adults
by DaleRivers inwhy did you become a jw, what particular teachings attracted you to 'the truth' ?.
.
in my case (baptized at 20/21) it was the only religion i knew; my mom, her mom, and favorite sister were jw; and the teachings of no hellfire or immortal soul made sense to me.. .

I grew up in the "truth" but didn't really care about it. In fact, I only attended meetings, I did no service. I spent time at college parties and hanging out with "worldly" friends. I had zero friends in the congreagation. But one day I was attending class and was thinking about the state of the world. It was such a mess! I really started to preoccupy my mind with world affairs. The more I did, the more I became disheartened.
Then one Sunday morning, a brother whom I respected (and still do) gave a talk. He picked song 195 "This is Jehovah's Day" with the following lyrics:
"What will you bring, Jehovah's Kingdom?
Triumph of truth and righteousness.
And bring what else, Jehovah's Kingom?
Eternal life and happiness.
Praise the Universal Sovereign
For his love and faithfulness."
And since I never really doubted the correctness of their doctrine, it really struck me at such a weird angle which had never touched me that way before. I thought, "Wow! Jehovah must really be an amazing God to do this for us, for ME! He doesn't HAVE to correct things, he didn't HAVE to give me life on a paradise earth...but he loves me SO MUCH that he WANTS to! And he is faithful, he didn't promise me this and then change his mind! Why haven't I been appreciating him more and doing more for him?"
So for me, it was the character of God that brought everything full swing for me and motivated me to get baptized at 20 years of age.
If only I knew then what I know now...

Have you guys ever been counseled for using wording or terminology of "Christendom?"
What are some other terms the Society hates to use?

I think the ABSOLUTE WORST host will be Gerrit Losch...
He has the personality of a turnip.

Be Honest: Were You Ever Jealous When Someone Was Appointed a Pioneer, MS or Elder?
by minimus ini knew some that were very happy for you and others, along with their families, that were envious of someone's advancement.. .

Londo111: Especially when I’d to direct men and women several decades older than me in field service. It felt very unnatural.
I could not agree more. Especially when a punk teenager has to direct an older pioneer sister who survived the war and escaped Nazi Germany to build a life in America. Something is wrong with that picture!

Only once.
Back when I was single, I was pioneering and attented 99% of all the meetings. I was reaching for it and the body knew it. My CO even asked why the heck I wasn't a servant. I didn't know. I thought I was doing everything I needed to be doing.
Then, out of the blue, the coordinaters 17 year old son, gave a #3 the week the CO was here, and the next week was announced. He literally did nothing. Minimum service, hardly commented, gave talks like Ben Stein. Irritated me and a few others who were genuinly "reaching out".
Seemed like a nice case of nepotism.
