I believe many of the mankind's problems stem from misinformation, disinformation, counterknowledge, superstition, irrationality, baloney, etc... a lack of critical thinking in lieu of misplaced faith or trust. On this board, the subject is often faith. If someone asserts something as fact that can only be categorized as faith, I tend to wanna deconstruct the logic that led them to that assertion. Why encourage the spread of misinformation?

You will be hard pressed to find a scientist who tucks tail and runs because other scientists are picking apart his theories... because science THRIVES under scrutiny. Peer review is not a back-patting ceremony.

not because it wasn't part of his plan, nor because he has the all powerful and all knowing governing body in place, but because we really just aren't that important.

Worship implies a need in god to be worshipped.

And something that is "perfect", by definition, needs or lacks nothing to be whole or complete.... another reason Yahweh is self-refuting.

And there is a difference between wanting praise and wanting saccharine adoration, since saccharine is often used to describe sickeningly sweet.

Demanding constant streams of praise and "every knee on earth" to bend in worship of one's self.... sounds very much like a being who wants sickeningly sweet adoration to me. If god got his wish and a mass conversion occurred tomorrow and every human offered three prayers/day, that's over 20,000,000 prayers daily.

If I eat too much candy, I get sick.

...there is a difference between 'not being okay with people who don't praise him' and 'becoming petulant if he doesn't receive such flattery.'

And yet neither of those statements adequately describe the gravity of an omniGod killing a puny imperfect being who fails to worship like he commands.

So I can do my best to be a good person and show love and care for my neighbor, volunteer to help needy kids, invest my life in finding a cure for cancer, build a shelter for the homeless, etc.etc... but if I don't believe in the god of the bible and worship him accordingly, I get the death sentence? (Or everlasting torment, depending on the doctrine in which you subscribe.)

Tammy, FWIW, I was writing up that post before I saw you joined this thread. I tend to be more vocal, sarcastic, and obnoxious when it looks like it's going to be a predominantly non-believer thread.

Keep up the attitude and you're gonna lose out on our master's undeserved kindness. You were born into sin via Adam/Eve but OmniGod didn't even have to give you life. He doesn't need you. (Except for praise.) Your life was a frickin' gift. And it has a purpose: to worship him. Okay, so maybe he does need you. But he doesn't force you to worship him. He gives you.... wait for it.... "free will": Serve him or die. It doesn't get much freer than that, I don't care what logic says.

Besides, who are you to question OmniGod? Are you omni anything? No. So just because his actions refute his description, creating a logical vaccuum, that doesn't mean he's a figment of man's imagination.

I agree, Paul. The bible could be summed up very well in the above sentence.
