i seem to have to constantly hit my "refresh" button in order to get the latest up to date info on this board......i don't know why it's suddenly doing this.....does anyone have any idea what i can do so that it automatically updates?.

i am also greatly impressed with the recent vindication of the atkins diet in a. major study - and what it tells us about the state of human knowledge and science.. what stuns me is that this diet has been explicitly described and debated for.
about 30 years - and yet, its proof took decades - with some 'experts' still refusing.
The Atkins diet is NOT a healthy way to lose weight, I don't care what they say. One of my co-workers was on it, was losing weight left right and center (anyone can lose weight if you cut out one area of food, whether it's fat, protein or carbs). She went to her doctor to discuss some tests and he said "what the heck has happened to your liver?! What are you eating?" When she told him the Atkins diet, he said "get off it now." She had lots of extra fatty tissue around her liver that had not been there before, courtesy of all the red meat the Atkins diet promotes. A few weeks after she stopped, she had her liver checked again and it was normal. One of the problems with carbs, is that virtually all the carbs we eat: bread, pasta, rice, is made with white flour and all the goodness has been zapped out of it. Products made with whole wheat have a far less dramatic role with the whole 'converting sugar to insulin' and we should be eating more whole grain products.
I sincerely doubt that a diet that promotes meat and eggs as being better for you than fresh fruits and lower fat foods, could possibly be healthy in the long run. A sister in my hall tried it earlier this year and she said she felt terrible on it.
I've lost 30 lbs. through cutting down on all the fatty foods, and have increased my fresh fruits and vegetables considerably. As soon as I'm able, I'm going back to working out at the gym. Fruits and vegetables have all the vitamins and nutrions that we need: meat and eggs do not.

if christ's life was a ransom sacrifice for us, than why must we "buy" our way into the new kingdom (paradise, etc)???
WC, they tell you you have to go out in Service and this is based on a couple of scriptures that they like to blow out of proportion. First is that one they use in the OT where it says "If I say to someone wicked "you will positively die" and you do not warn him of his wickedness, then he in his own error will die, but his blood I shall ask back from your own hand." I can't remember if God was saying this to Jonah or who he said it to. Fast forward 2500 years into the future and they tell you that this is applying to us today and that unless you go out and knock on the same doors for 130 years getting 10 hours a month in service, talking to good decent people about how they're gonna die if they don't become a JW, then YOU'RE gonna die!
They also use a scripture in Acts where Paul says: "While I did not hold back from teaching you publically, and from house to house." This is the scripture they use to justify their annoying ritual every week of knock, knock, knock and on the surface, it seems to have merit. However, a closer study of the original meaning of "house to house" puts it in a different light. This was more than likely talking about going to the homes of people that had already converted to Christianity, not knocking on the doors of unbelievers.
There is absolutely no evidence in the bible that Jesus went from house to house trying to convince people that he was the Messiah. He taught either in the Synagogues, in public squares or anywhere out in the open where anyone who wanted to hear him could listen, and those that didn't want to listen, didn't have to.
They also use the scripture that says "faith without works is dead." They interpret these "works" to be Field Service. The Society's veiled threat that you will die at Armagedon if you don't go out in Service at every opportunity, works well. No loyal Witness wants to risk Jehovah's wrath at the Big A and miss out on living in a Paradise which is "right around the corner". They therefore teach that you have to EARN everlasting life (even though they do say it's a gift), you can't just waltz through there. This is simply a tactical cult technique to keep everyone in line..........

That's great! I know I was never the same after I first read COC.......I was in shock simply because you knew immediately that what you were reading was the truth (no pun intended)........puts the Borg in a whole new light......one that's not very flattering.

Absolutely not! How many millions of people throughout history have died with no written record of that person, most notably before such records were kept? How about some slave in Egypt 4,000 years ago? He was probably just buried and history forgot him. No record at all that he even existed, but that doesn't mean he didn't.
Francois, I know what you're saying, but from everything I've heard and read, you cannot change a pedophile, even with intense therapy and even drugs. I know many in my hall who were sexually abused as children, but there seems to be one major difference. The women who were sexually abused generally will go to the ends of the earth to try and make sure the same thing doesn't happen to their own children. However, men who were abused as children almost invaribly become pedophiles themselves.
A friend of mine, Debbie, was abused by her paternal grandfather. He had also molested her father when he was a kid. Debbie's dad became a pedophile himself, molesting one of his own grandchildren, one of Debbie's nephews. Debbie would kill anyone who molested her own children and would never in a million years think of doing this herself. Who knows why, but this is the way it is.
Her father actually got DF'd for this (a rarity indeed) and is on some sort of medication to help him "control" his behaviour. How long this lasts is anyone's guess, but I don't think he'll ever change.........

Yep, I got one of these a few months ago.........I emailed them back telling them to piss off and then I forwarded the original email to the US government Fraud Department.

just been thinking about the bible story of judas lately (idon't know why).any way , if you take some of the bible charcters as real historical people, even if the stories are exaggerated or even just not true , then maybe jesus was a man a bit like our dear own governing body members.. he taught he was the messiah and was sent by god or was gods son.either he was a liar or deluded.sorry i don't buy that he was gods real son.. judas along with the other apostales fall for this story just like we fell for the jw stuff.they follow jesus around change thier lives and go preaching about it.judas starts to notice that all is not as it seams , that no mircles are really happening and that jesus is a fraud.. he gets very upset about it so much so that he turns jesus over to the pharisees then commits suicide.. he was conned like us and got his revenge.. could be how the story really went, but i'll never know.
I wouldn't classify us in the same light as Judas Iscariot. Whether or not you believe Jesus was Gods' Son, the point was; Judas betrayed a friend for money. Today, calling someone a "Judas" is a great insult as it always is related to betraying someone.
Years ago, a "friend" of mine told my boyfriend that I was fooling around on him (this was not true at all). There were accusations and she acted as a go-between when my boyfriend and I weren't talking. Basically, she was lying her ass off to both of us and we eventually broke up. And why did she do this? Because she had the hots for him and wanted him for herself, all the while she was betraying me.
When I finally found out what she had done and confronted her, she finally admitted it and asked what she could do or give to me to try and make it up.
I thought about it for a minute and said "How about 30 pieces of silver" and walked away.
if the jehovah witnesses are really the one and only true religion, and we did quit, then i agree that we are apostates.
but since we seem to all agree that they made wrong prophesies, and changed so often the meaning of the bible, why then do we call ourselves apostates?
if we quit a religion that didn't have the truth, then why are we so hard on ourselves?
Doesn't the word "apostate" mean: "A falling away from God"? If this is the case, then I would suggest that, seeing as the Governing Body members are knowingly promoting false doctrines and yet proclaim that they and they alone "know" God, than it it they who are truly apostates, not us. In their quest for absolute control, they have abandoned God and all that he stands for. I would not want to be in their shoes on Judgement Day.
