As a JW, what did you do on Christmas Day?
by Magwitch ingrowing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.
it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.
(however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.

When I was a Dub I would go snowboarding, and eat chinese food. Now all I do is open presents with my kids then eat a HUGE breakfast, followed by hanging out with nonDub relatives, and then we eat a gigantic dinner and spend the rest of the night watching movies in our living room drinking eggnogg.

while walking in the hill section of the town i live in with my wife and three kids (ages 7,2,1) we walked by a brother from my old hall. even though we are walking on a three foot wide section of sidewalk and will be mere inches apart he is so desperate not to make eye contact that he fails to notice the uneven sidewalk which he trips over sending him crashing into some nearby bushes. trying to save face he scrambles back onto the sidewalk and does his very best fastwalk to put distance between him and my evil family.

Conscious Class: Do you still go in field service?
by brotherdan ini know there are some of the "conscious class" on the board (i.e.
yknot, miseryloveselders,elderelite,etc...) do you guys still go in the field ministry?

ele_lux it sounds like your in a tough spot. If you don't want the dramatic exit and plan to fade I would recommend serious planning, it is alot like chess you must be four moves ahead of your opponets. If you are living with JW's I recommend getting your own place if possible, it makes it sooo much easier to fade. All the hard work and bad days are worth it once you have your Freedom. I like you suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts but since i worked up the courage to leave I have started a wonderful family and have never been this happy in my life, i have real friends who aren't conditional and I found that my family have softend on their hardline stance for the most part and have come to accept me for who i am. I wish you the best of luck and remember you have plenty of friends here, so use us as much as you need

When I was a kid there was a brother that we always went in FS with that thought it would build character for me to go to the doors by myself. I used these opportunitys to tell people that if they didn't take the magazines that I wouldn't be allowed back in the car... and they wondered how i placed so many magazines. If you don't want to fade and feel you must go out, the fake knock or light knock work best... if forced to talk pretend to get a nervous stutter, that should get you sent to the backseat for most of the morning.

yeah that makes sense
by will_the_apostate ina little while back my siblings and i (one jw two exjw's) had and intervention for my mother (jw) because she nearly killed herself by abusing her perscription medicine.
like most addicts she denied that she had a problem and refused to get help, so my sister, brother, and i all restricited our contact with her as agreed until she would get help.
my mother turned to her local elders (she is inactive, only because she doesn't like to leave her house, she still believes) and sent them after my sister and i. i haven't been to a meeting since 2006, i am married to a non jw (oh the shame) and celebrate holidays, the elders show up at my house unannounced and start brow beating me in the most christian way about respecting my parents and (this is hiliarious) tell me that just because i don't agree with everything she does (they also tell me that she needs all her pills because of her pain) doesn't mean i can cut off association with her because it isn't scriptual... i couldn't help myself i laughed outloud.

MS the situation involved my mom overdosing while watching my two year old daughter, and this is not the first time. I still talk to my mom and she is allowed to see her grandchildren with suprivised visits. i was just trying to point out the hypocrisy of the elders who encourage shunning but have the minerals to say you can't do it unless they say, ummm i mean jehovah says its ok.
