Why do you come here?
by love2Bworldly ini come here to learn, but i also come here because it feels like a private club and i'm privy to be a member of the "in" crowd.
it's a great place to socialize.
does anyone else feel that they are a member of a special "club" when they come here, that only some people in this world will understand the jw world?.

How Have You Been Affected By Having Been A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inis your life over?
are you totally screwed up?
are you able to move on?
-
Thetis
My life is a series of peaks and valleys. Sometimes it's seems impossible to move on as almost every aspect of your life has been affected in a negative way.
On an intellectual level, I know that anger is detrimental to me only, but it's very difficult not to be angry. You have lost out on higher education, on employment opportunities, on friendships, and you know that your family's love is conditional and you thus live an unauthentic life.
You fear even frienships with ex-jw's as they may return to the organization, so this too can be conditional. You feel alienated from society. It's like learning how to live normally. Then you feel guilty feeling like this as so many people are worse off but no matter how small or big a knife is lodged in your back, it still hurts like hell. (this is what I tell myself to alleviate the guilt) lol
I do think I am mostly screwed up and it has taken a lot of hard work and therapy to be where I am today. It's difficult to wipe the slate clean and start again with what is considered normal.

has shunning been downplayed?
by chickpea inseveral times over the course of a year or so, jws from the kh i attended have been downright chatty during happenstance crossing of paths... .
wth is up with that?
i have no grudges against any of them, but it is confusing as all get out to have left the cult as an ardent supporter of my out, open, front page headlining transgender son, becoming vocally and decidely apostate knowing i was dead to them... now after at least a half decade out, to have them chummy-ing up to me in a check-out line.... frankly, i would rather they look the other way, you know, if none of them would ever genuinely want to know how my son is doing.

Could it be that they too are having doubts? I remember a time during my fade that I would deliberately go up to those who were known apostates and have a chat. (perhaps to ease my guilt at my despicable behaviour towards them previously)

Anyone know of any effective but simple diets/diet tips? Weight gain after giving up smoking!
by Lozhasleft ini'm really struggling with this.
i gave up smoking a few months back and have put on around 20lbs already.
i've gone up another dress size and i wasn't slim to begin with!

Loz, the quickest way I lose weight is by switching to skim or fat free milk and as Cofty said, to have smaller meals during the day and switch to a low GL diet. Eat fruits such as plums, berries, pears and watermelon as these have a low Glycemic Index.
You can supplement with chromium and 5HTP as these 2 do help with weight loss. 5-HTP is especially good if you have sugar cravings, although if you are on a serotonin-reuptake drug such as prozac, you shouldn't take 5-HTP.
I also find that if I make sure that 1/4 of each meal is protein, 1/4 carbohydrate: (starchy veggies or foods)and half of each meal non-starchy veggies, I lose very quickly. Both chromium and 5-HTP are natural products.

Flirting with going Vegetarian, anyone of you ever graduate from simply thinking about it?
by Theocratic Sedition init's just a thought right now, but one of those thoughts where i have that itch.
it's that same itch felt before i purchase something major.
i'm just wondering what i might be getting into based upon others experiences in this regard.

I haven't eaten red meat for more than twenty years now.....probably consider myself a pescetarian who lapses now and again and eats chicken. The best decision I made was to join a vegetarian cooking course run by The Brahma Kumaris Centre (hope this never gets out). An Indian lady who is a fourth generation vegetarian taught us the most amazing dishes....including tofu! I even managed to fool hubby with adding tofu into a curry dish. I have many recipies and tips on vegetarianism. I also take loads of vitamins....and yes I am normal and don't look like anything they have sent you.LOL. You can check on facebook.

Bit of Good News
by LouBelle insome of you know i've been down in the dark dumps.
i haven't had employment for 10 months now.
there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

That's wonderful news LouBelle. An early Xmas present... I started out in CSM for a Medical Company and ended up as a sales consultant, calling on hospitals etc. ... the added bonus doing sales is that you can always increase your income with sales incentives.
My hubby has recently been retrenched, so I know the feeling - one goes through such despair. Just to add to the despair of dealing with everything JW related. Dark days sometimes . Really good news!
