Someone-

a few months back right after the Annual Meeting i spoke to a former DO who IS IN THE KNOW - he is an old timer who had a hand in writing a number of publicatons that were released back in the 60,70s'

we spoke for almost an hour- he had been in contact with some of his old buddies still in bethel and here is what was shared with me>
back during the 90's due to the society having some much in Stocks and investments they made a ton of money and so despite the drop in donations they are sitting on lots of CASH so the Accountants and the Legal Dept put forth suggestions on how to protect all that cash and it was decided to SLIT THE ORG up into pc so you have completely and legally separate org - each with thier own pres, vp and board of dir

so if one got sued if need be they could literally sacriface that one part and still retain 4 other major corps.

i saw a document on the net that the Society filed with the gov that showed income from the literature was 1.2 billion dollars and then there was a comparision filing that took place a yr or so after and the income was $600,000,000 a drop of over $500,000,000 milion dollars
but despite that drop they rode the stock market during the 90's and it was good for them

so wt has plently of cash--

i will look and see if i made a PDF file of that filing that the society did- but i'm sure as always someone has the link as well

about 3 yrs ago i used to use in a talk i gave talk #3 of the public speakers outlines "Serving with jah unified org" a qoute i got out of a Printing Trade Mag that the WT is the second largest Printing Outfit in the USA behind the Gov Printing Office here in Wash DC

so they are IN THE MONEY

You are welcome- I hope this doesn't distract from this thread, but i would be interested to know and perhaps others as well- what is your background and are you currently serving in some capcity at this time

i hope that this does not come over sounding to personal- but i find it interesting to see the various background of folks who come here to discuss issues and concerns that are dear to them.

I'm sure that you will agree that all of us have made many sacrifices inbehalf of the Org and all of us should certainly want to make sure that it was done on a solid basis as opposed to "the traditions of men"

as we are all aware we have met many folks in the door to door who were sincere and zealous -yet thier dogmas were not based on the bible and regardless of how well them meant- it had very little to do with whether what they believed was supported by the bible.

I think that such forums as this forces all of us to be like the Boreans- to see if these things are true-

for too many persons they have adopted the attitude of "If it's in PRINT, THEN IT IS SO"

FOR SO many JW the phrase "The Society Says" has become equal to Jah says or the bible says or the Holy spirit says or Jesus says.

i recall this one DO JC Howard would always say: "What does MOMMA say"

this type of mindset creates in so many jw the view that nothing needs to be examined since THE SOCIETY said it.

BUT IN forums like this one unlike at the Hall when a question is raised one can't resort to merely telling someone because THE SOCIETY SAYS SO and expect thier response to be accepted at face value.

One will literally be forced to either privide proof of ones claim or concede that there is no biblical support beyond "THEY SOCIETY SAYS SO"

So i look forward to reading the dialog between yourself and others

the preaching work ,fred and the wts 'batting slump'.

in a thread below, fred, in a quite daniellesque manner, sought to detract from ray franz's credibility because ray did not promote the wts' preaching activity.. firstly i have to say that fred is not in the easiest position.

he is a wts apologist of sorts and whereas he might have some support on some other boards like great crowd or wol where his non-sequitors would go quite undetected, he finds it hard going here.

what you have said is so true - the moment a jw out in service is faced with any domga issues

they become like a slug with salt poured on them

as you mention it is almost "funny" , but for the fact that you know this guy with his wife and daughter has given up his pension,

not set aside a dime for his old age - THE END SO CLOSE-and despite the fact that his kid is a straight "A" student IN SCHOOL would kick her out of the house if she asked can i stay here while going to MED school instead of pioneering

that is what makes it so sad

your quotes are well taken- can you imagine how many bible students would continue thier study if they knew just those few quotes you mentioned- as i stated it is usually after baptism do you know what questions to ask , but by then it's too late-

To think that any JW could convince a person to continue thier study after telling them that all those quotes WERE FOOD FROM GOD

it becomes a joke - it becomes clear to any real student that the Writers of the WT while their intentions may have been good - were certainly not being directed by God.

what we see are merely the Opinions and Guesses of the Editorial Staff of the WT Society- now there is nothing WRONG with them giving thier opinions-

in fact i have stated many times --i personal think the wt would have been fine if they stayed with bible commentary-

but they got into trouble when they jumped over from being a "Student of the Word" publishing:
"OUR PERSONAL UNDERSTANDING/opinions/guesses/hunches/interpertations"
to the "SEAT OF MOSES"

While i may not agree with you on some of your points . i do want to take this opportunity to say Thank YOU.

since many of us here are either currently associated with the Org or not , we all share a general understanding of the org view on dialogging with those classified as "Apoststes" DFed and DA.

due to this we often times see threads like this go into NAME CALLING AND OTHER foolish things.

It is so refreshing to see that adults can discuss issues without having to get into the gutter

many jw completely REFUSE to read, hear or examine anything that does not put the WT in a Favorable light and we all know that it is due to the instructions that all JW have been given when it comes to conversations such as this.

it is good to see someone like you who has decided to weigh for yourself the value or lack there of of those who have chosen to leave the org.

i have always believed that if we have the truth then there should be no need to fear or avoid open dialog

there is not ONE JW who would accept a bible students view that

"I don't need to read your magazines i alreay know what is in them"
yet they have never opened a magazine up in thier life
in fact we would challenge such a person as to whether they consider it open minded make a conclusion on a mattter and yet never examined it.

as jw we were always encouraging folks to be willing to examine thier dogmas even if it proved to be Critical

yet not one jw is allowed with out penlty of DF or at least being counseled by and elder for doing the same thing that we ask every householder to do

if a jw like yourself is willing to examine many of the things you will be asked to examine and then still concludes that the Many claims of the WT are Scripturally based

then at least one has to admit that you have made an informed decision whether we agree with it or not

the problem is that many of us firmly believe that if as bible students we were allowed to examine and question many of the things that we have seen and read here on the net in the context of:

"DOES THIS LOOK LIKE INFORMATION THAT CAN BE CALLED FOOD FROM GOD"

or is it merely the "Opinion and in some cases the Guesses of a group of men who sit on the Writing Staff of the WT"

as i tell my father inlaw- when a person is studying he praised and commended for asking lots and lots of questions

the problem is ---It is not till after one baptized many times do you then know what questions to ask- BUT IT'S TOO LATE THEN

BUT THANKS again for at least being willing to dialog with others who may not share your views- something i rarely see done by many jw

man --how i recall those days - i can see so clearly this pioneer sister in my hall who had one of those 3 wheel bikes to get around town on- she had a 2 or 3 year old who had a little seat rigged up in one of the baskets- gas was only sold on certain days of the week--

we all knew the END WAS SO CLOSE let's see at 3 yrs old that makes that kid at least 29/30

so she is now a Grand ma

you have hit the nail on the head- due ot their ever shifting blood polices more Drs will see that this policy lacks biblical or a sound medical basis esp when the Writing Dept has the ability to split blood into ACCEPTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE PARTS and offer no Scriptual reason beyond:

"Cause the Society says so"

WHILE you are correct it is a lie in everyday terms
but this reply is not meant for everyday terms

it is in a legal context

it shows clearly how slick the wt lawyers are

in the next few yrs you will see more issue shift from Dfing status to DAing status and more issues will move to a "CONSCIENCE MATTER" STATUS

NOTICE they state no sanctions- and they are right- in most settting sactions require some active actions on the part of some authority body --=-JUDICAL COMMITTEE- but the legal desk has help the service desk get the same results- A PERSON BEING SHUNNED- without the need of any action on the part of the wt or it's reps the elders

so in a legal context they are correct, but in terms of the real world the jw will get the shaft-

this is just and example of what makes the wt so dnagerious

ck out their answer on thier website to ARE JW THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL BE SAVED
