it is not THIS OR THAT - it is the complete package deal that creates the problem
for the most part anyone issue taken by itself a cult it may not make, but when you put all the ps together well that is a horse of a different color
i agree this is not earth shattering, but when put with the rest of wt history it only continues to paint the picture

when i was 13, all of the other kids in my congregation were taking home school, getting them out of the "bad association" in public school.
they talked me into it too.. of course, at 13 trying to get me to actually do the schooling was a feat that no one could master.. i worked for a brother in the cong.
full time, and never finished the schooling.. so...flash forward.

now my wife who gave up college to "PIONEER" is back in school with me
we are working fulltime and going to school

i copied my reply from the "can you confirm this wt quote" thread because i wanted to highlight the need to be careful when talking to jw relatives.. it all started out as a joke for my jw brother.
for 7 years, since i left the wts, i've kept silent about what i've found out about the wts to prevent my losing contact with him and his family.. i sent him an email the other day jokingly wondering if he was going to stop preaching since the 20th century is over, included in the email was the wt quote from 1-1-89. he emailed me back, saying that he looked it up and it said "our generation".
i replied by saying that the quote was changed because of the screw up.

sorry to hear about what happened don't feel too bad - it is very hard not to say anything once you come to know what you have
one of the nice things about the net is that we are able to learn from each other had to walk the minefields of WT esp when it comes to family members still in.

i recently had a medical scare, went through testing, and scans.
a doctor even called round my house uninvited to give me a hospital appointment!

even for a little boy who was at the age of reason.. i remember very well the time when i was in the second grade about the age of 7 that i did eat a hot dog on a friday.. i knew that it was a sin but i ate it anyway.

so true in fact anyone who started to study after the 95 articles on the generation change has no idea as to what the impact of that Dogma was on JW-
many of us planned our lives around a dogma that we were told was fully supported and taught by the bible
only to find out that all the articles, talks, service meeting parts conventions and releases with this dogma in them was NEVER SUPPORTED OR TAUGHT BY THE BIBLE

hi, i need some advice from those here who may have gone before me in a situation similar to this.
i have to explain the problem first so bear with me please :).

you will be just fine- but you have made the mistake of talking to a jw about how you feel about the org- FOR ALL YOU LURKERS OUT THERE NEVER TELL ANYONE HOW FEEL
AS FOR the letter you will never get it back so chalk it up and move on
you are on the right road and we will support you all the way
one of the nice things about the net is you can get the needed advice on HOW TO LEAVE THE ORG ON YOUR TERMS
this is the key to leaving with your mental state in tack-
my wife and i planned our get away for over 6 months and we left on our terms and it feels great
at this point we don't even care what happens
we have been out for 3 yrs and life is good
stay here on this site and you will get all the help you need
